Jack Hart is a young attorney trying to escape a troubled past as he climbs the ladder at a big Seattle law firm. The demands and indignities of associate life have been softened by his interest in his mentor, Harmony Piper, granddaughter of the firm’s founder. When Harmony disappears, Jack learns firm secrets and dangers he could not have imagined - and may not survive.
Set in 1990s Seattle, this first installment of the Jack Hart mystery series reflects a world before smartphones and constant connectivity, where a responsible and hardworking attorney says a cheerful good-bye to her colleague at midnight - and simply vanishes before morning.

Rosemary Reeve created a story with a good plot and character development It held my attention to the very end.
I enjoyed getting to know Jack, Harmony and of course Betsy, Jack’s dog. With a little mystery and a dash of romance, I look forward to the next book in the series.
Noah DeBaise added so much to the story with his narration, bringing the characters to life.
Definitely a very good read.

A light, suspenseful mystery

I think one of the most lovely things of this book was the way Jack thought of Harmony. It lent a romantic undertone to the storyline I loved.
I really cannot speak highly enough of the narrator, it’s what attracted me to the book in the first place. He makes a great Jack!
Satisfying mystery, Stellar narrator

Reeve's writes good action/suspense scenes. Her characters are dull, except for the heroine... she's also inexplicable. Worse, after getting denoument over everything, the book still didn't end. Nope, with an emotional cliff hanger, it's going to continue into the next one.
As for Noah DeBiase, well his boyish voice might be right for the hero's wuss-naïveté but it fails to explain how this character managed to climb from under... way under... abject poverty to snag an undergrad degree in marketing, then a law degree from schools that landed him a job with his city's richest legal firm. Given his background and his wimpy-ness, that's almost the biggest mystery Ms. Reeves spins.
In fact there are more holes in this plot than a Florida election ballot. Which explains the need for lots and lots of denoument. The huge mystery is why doesn't Jack Hart think and/or act like any man I know? Yeah, there's a risk that male leads in. mysteries might have testosterone derangement syndrome. But this Hart guy runs on empty. Wuzzup widdat?
Ms. Reeves has strong technique and I hope she grows more succinct as the series goes on. I'll not going on with it.
Will The Denoument Ever End?
