Jenn Budd, the only former US Border Patrol agent to continually blow the whistle on this federal agency's rampant corruption, challenges us—as individuals and as a nation—to face the consequences of our actions. Her journey offers a vital perspective on the unfolding moral crisis of our time. She also gives harrowing testimony about rape culture, white privilege, women in law enforcement, LGBTQ issues, mental illness, survival, and forgiveness.

Jenn's personal account rings true, and allowed me to see the structure of our Border Patrol system. Every word reads as truthful without exaggeration. I suspect that Jenn's story is especially recognizable to those of us who have been deeply committed to the hard work of doing our own trauma healing.

This book is a combination memoir, confessional, and exposé of an enormous and well funded federal law enforcement system. Once Jenn connects the dots for the reader, it becomes obvious that this is an issue that affects the entire US, especially during the second administration of one of the most corrupt humans to ever gain power.

I bought the audiobook because I wanted to understand more about the culture of the border county that I moved to a few short years ago. And the book more than delivers on that. After finishing, I have a deeper understanding of things that go far beyond border protection. The book explains in plain detail the corruption that extends through much of the US legal and political system, and suggests ways to begin fighting for justice.

Clear, honest, and vital explanation of the border situation and our national system

If you vote, you owe it to your country to read this book. This book is a person memoir, so in may ways it is painful to read. But even more painful is hearing about the abuse suffered by migrants coming north to escape gangs of murderers and grinding poverty in Central America. Few politicians have the courage to oppose the border patrol. If enough voters made a stink about it, it would be disbanded.

Must read for every US voter

Jen tells her story in such a raw and honest way. She brings receipts and documents every thing thoroughly. I praise her for being so open about her trauma and how she is trying to heal herself from within and taking on an advocacy role for those she wronged in the past. Want to know what the immigration system and ICE are really about? This is a MUST read!

Heart wrenching and honest!!

Jenn presents a story of her time in Border Patrol with the kind of honesty and clarity that’s become hard to find among American leadership and is absolutely critical for understanding the actions of federal agencies at this time in history. She paints a picture of how things changed drastically in the wake of 9/11 on the US-Mexico border that reminds us things didn’t have to be the way they are now. Her story is deeply personal and may help anyone struggling with PTSD or to supporting a loved one who is. Her first-hand knowledge of the systemic harm done to migrants, to border residents, and to Border Patrol agents who tried to sound an alarm about cover-ups for crime of all kinds is invaluable.

Invaluable Personal Narrative
