When the quiet Little Vestry of St. Matthew's Church becomes the blood-soaked scene of a double murder, Scotland Yard Commander Adam Dalgliesh faces an intriguing conundrum: How did an upper-crust Minister come to lie, slit throat to slit throat, next to a neighborhood derelict of the lowest order? Challenged with the investigation of a crime that appears to have endless motives, Dalgliesh explores the sinister web spun around a half-burnt diary and a violet-eyed widow who is pregnant and full of malice - all the while hoping to fill the gap of logic that joined these two disparate men in bright red death...

We all know Pd James is the best but here we have the best with an outstanding performance and good sound editing. No repeating sentences as in so many Audible books

One of the best by James, herself one of the best mystery writers ever, including Tey, Stout, and Christie.

Overall a good read. PD James is a favorite. Think the narration is better if listened to at faster speed.

Page turner Murder mystery, but also penetrating the deeper, more mysterious levels of human existance. Masterly.

PD James at her best.

I've been on a P D James kick and always enjoy the Dalgliesh books but this one seemed to have more characters, more plot twists and more dialogue than the ones I've previously enjoyed. It certainly kept mybinterest and the only thing that stopped me was my phone battery dying!!!

Full of twists and turns

First Audible needs to boost sound on these books. Sometimes, it is too low for those of us with hearing disabilities. I also have the book on Kindle, and i have to say, i would rather listen to computer "text to speech" than this particular Audible narrator. And why a Female narrator. when i read Dalgliesh story, i expect a male voice, not a high piitched, nearly. in-audible lady, whom i guess was trying for dramatic, instead is boring and barely 'audible'.
This particular narrator might n
have been good on some lady romantic book, otherwise, i won't buy more with her.
The story is good, like most PD James, but near the end, trying stressing the killer psychosis though speech and actions. i guess, i was like" ok,ok get on with it" , aand would have skipped the chapter but was afraid i would miss something.
i found this true in " The Dark Tower" too.
i read alot of older authors, Rex Stout, Ms. Christie, E. Biggers, and Sir A. Doyle, but this lady really liked to ramble on and on sometimes.
Guess i will have to get future Dalgliesh fulfillment on tv in the future

Narrator bored me

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story. The performer was excellent.
Murder in church vestry of a member of government and a homeless person leads Daglish into the lives of the upper society of England. Well written; lots of characters to keep track.

Long journey but a great story

The descriptions are so vivid, fluid and perfectly written. Adam Dagliesh is a tough, reserved policeman but one who solves the case

Well told British story.

What did you love best about A Taste for Death?

I like the way Adam Dalglesh sifts through each clue large and small and continues to interrogate uncooperative family members until a pattern emerges.

What did you like best about this story?

The way the small boy became a cornerstone of the story.

Which character – as performed by Penelope Dellaporta – was your favorite?

Adam Dalgelsh, the tortured poet, inspector and all around sad man was played brilliantly.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

FINDING GOD AND DEATH IN THE SAME PLACE.
