Resumen del Editor

Ernst Kohl has spent nearly half his life in prison after being convicted of murder as a young man. Upon his release, with nowhere else to go, Kohl returns to his old family home on the outskirts of a small Michigan town, hoping for redemption, or at least understanding.

He finds a dog, a girlfriend, and a job in quick succession, and it seems as if he might finally be able to leave the past behind and make a quiet life for himself. But some of the residents, including the town's corrupt deputy sheriff, are less than thrilled to see him, and will stop at nothing to rid the town of its infamous resident.

As events hurtle to an inevitable conclusion, Kohl is left to decide: At what point might a man break, and at what cost to himself?

So True To Life

This book reveals the underside of society,So many hold themselves up to be so righteous yet continue to imprison people even after they have served their time. When does forgiveness come into play. It also shows how corruption can not only destroy lives it destroys the society that it is committed in. The narrator brought the story to life and sad to say this is a reflection of our American society, "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, via Audiobook Boom, and have voluntarily left this review."

It left me feeling sad

After listening to this book I feel a bit drained and sad. I'm aware that many people have a difficult time adjusting to life after serving a prison sentence and that there are several people who don't accept the criminal back into the community after committing a violent crime. In this book, some people welcome Ernst Kohl back and some don't. We get a good look at both. We also see how he tries to make a normal life for himself and to prove he's really a good man. After listening to most of the book and given a few hints, we finally find out why Ernst went to prison. We also travel along while he falls in love with a dog and a woman only to find out things don't go as planned. Be warned, this book does not have a wonderful happy ending. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

A Shallow river

I found this book depressing.Kohl gets out of jail after 20 years ahd finds he is not welcomed by all the residenst of his home town. One cop makes his life miserable.
Joseph F. Miele Jr was ok narating. It seemed stilted at times. There was a bit of repetition in the beginning along with clicking I don't think was supposed to be in the audio.
I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.
