Resumen del Editor

Caribbean, 1762. With the French in Canada defeated, the focus of Sergeant Hugh MacKim’s war shifts to the West Indies.

Still with Kennedy’s Rangers, a French privateer captures his ship off the Bahamas, and the French captain murders the crew. From that point on, MacKim and the Rangers fight their way through the campaign, with battles on Martinico and Cuba only the backdrop to their personal war with Captain Rene Roberval of Douce Vengeance.

In the third book of the Warrior's Path trilogy, MacKim faces hurricanes and meets slaves while hoping to survive and return to the arms of Claudia, his French Canadian sweetheart. But life does not always go according to plan.

Note: This book contains graphic violence and is not suitable for listeners under the age of 18.

A rousing tale told by a story teller.

Just finished listening to A Sacrifice of
Pawns.
I enjoyed the book immensely and the voices and characterizations were top notch. Looking forward to reading the next one.
The characters and the locals were well formed and the author made it easy to identify with even minor characters that were woven in and out of the story line.
The story moved along at a fast pace (emphasized by the narrators tempo), with each scene - each event- drawing the listener ever deeper into the action. The build up to the final scenes didn't disappoint.
The entire tale was less like a book and more like a radio play of old. It lacked only the sound effects to complete the imagery. The collaboration between writer and narrator was well worth the effort.
Honestly, I doubt that I would have finished the written word but add to that the narration and it became impossible to not complete the journey.

intriguing historical fiction

This story really captured the day to day grind of soldier life during colonization of the Caribbean. the protagonist’s constant struggle to survive despite the ever-changing political winds was riveting, especially to a modern reader. The daring adventures/descriptions of battles was thrilling. David Engel’s deft performance gave life to so many characters; I particularly appreciated his knack for accents! The author may have chosen to repeat himself with multiple descriptions of the heat and the flies; but by the end of the book I found it almost comical. Overall, a good read on my commute!
