CBA best-selling author Kim Vogel Sawyer has won multiple awards, including the Carol and the Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence. A Home in Drayton Valley is a tale of keeping the faith in the face of great uncertainty. In 1880, Tarsie Raines is traveling from New York to Kansas with the Brubachers: Joss, Mary, and their two children. Along the way, tragedy strikes, leaving Tarsie and Joss alone to face an unthinkable crisis - and only God’s love to guide them forward.

The only complaint I have is that Joss is described as a very large, strong man, but the narrator uses a whiny, almost childlike voice when speaking as him. Other than that, it's perfect!
One of the best!

I would recommend this book if you need a book to bring to you down to earth and remember what life is really "All" about. Tarsi wanted a good life and a family. She just hadn't expected it to come neatly wrapped up and handed to her. Yet, family values, honor, friendship, spiritual values. These are the things you see as Tarsi moves on to a better life, "just not the way she expected" to get it.
The author has a very nice way of turning the story around and including not only freedom of slaves (yet different status), showing what families go thru in life, no matter what their status or color...the same trials and they look for the same things...bringing up their children with good values; and prohibition and the changes it brought about.
Promise of the heart
