Twenty years past, in 1757, a young Redcoat, Reginald Aubrey, stole a newborn boy - the lighter-skinned of Oneida twins - during the devastating fall of Fort William Henry and raised him as his own. No one connected to Reginald escaped unscathed from this crime. Not his adopted daughter, Anna. Not Stone Thrower, the Native American father determined to get his son back. Not Two Hawks, William's twin brother separated since birth, living in the shadow of his absence and hoping to build a future with Anna. Nor Lydia, who longs for Reginald to be free from his self-imposed emotional prison and embrace God's forgiveness - and her love.

Now William, whose identity has been shattered after discovering the truth of his birth, hides in the ranks of an increasingly aggressive British army. The Redcoats prepare to attack frontier New York, and the Continentals, aided by Oneida warriors including Two Hawks, rally to defend it.

As the Revolutionary War penetrates the Mohawk Valley, two families separated by culture, united by love and faith, must find a way to reclaim the son marching toward them in the ranks of their enemies.

Can I give six stars?

What a testimony of God working in lives of his people! I couldn’t believe what happened toward the end but that twist made the book! I just wish there was another I’m going to miss this family.

WOW! This book was even better than the first one!

As always. Benton's story creates an emotional connection with all the main characters. The story is fascinatingly told. Even the battle details create mental understanding rather than chaotic excitement. However, unlike "the Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn", I will not be reading this one again. In spite of the need to resolve the story as it is read, it was disturbing to me, personally. The characters were a means of personalizing a horror in history.

Intense and penetrating

This book picks up where "The Wood's Edge" left off, completing the story in a heart wrenching manner. "Creator has a plan".....

A wonderful conclusion to the story.

Complex Indian involvement in the Revolutionary War with their sacrifice, betrayal, and much more were unknown to me. Stories of relationships were woven with depth and beauty in the midst of terrible death, suffering and frequent bright spots of joy. I also loved the descriptions of The Great Creator and His ways. Beautiful story that I was sorry to have end.

Real history masterfully unfolded
