Performance; story; setting; all familiar to the genre but singular in the telling. Austen is superb.

Worthwhile story

Focusing on the choices people make and the options they have in a given situation makes this book a worthwhile read. It was well read ( with one glaring exception).

A wonderful book

The author took a deep look into how the Nazi occupation would affect each resident. What would each do? The book made me ask what I would do. I am reading it a second time.

Too many unfinished storylines!

This was an ambitious effort and didn't really pay off, in my opinion. The author strays off so much on odd stories that's it's difficult to follow. What could have been a really brilliant novel ends up with a lot of unfinished storylines. So many unanswered questions about the characters! Very unsatisfying. Wouldn't recommend this book.

Brussels sprouts in these realistic characters

33 Place Brugman presents a realistic portrait of possible neighbors and their potential conflicts in a typical Belgian neighborhood. Having lived in Brussels for 17 years myself, I appreciated this portrait of war time Brussels and the complicated relationships that existed. I also thought the performances were excellent. Bravo!

Stunning

33 Bergman is a stunning portrait of a time and place. It is magnificently written. This novel will stay with you long after you reached the last page.

Heartbreaking….

WWII story about how the war affects the lives of Jewish and Christian Belgians living in an upper middle class building in Brussels.

The author weaves these stories subtly

No flow, no plot

This was one of the worst books I’ve listened to. The story line was hard to grasp and the narration was robotic and cringy. I couldn’t keep the characters straight. There was no protagonist, no clear antagonist. Very weak.
