Charlotte Davenport is a woman on a singular mission: get onto a ship bound for Atlantis by any means necessary, and get home to her sister. When she joins the crew of the Malediction, she has no idea she's made herself an unwitting captive of its pirate captain. Captain Lirian Jurel is cocky and secretive and infuriatingly handsome, and she can't shake the feeling that he's laughing at her . . . but Charlotte has a secret of her own, and she'll do anything to keep it.

Captain Lirian Jurel has only one thing on his mind—the next adventure. F--king, feasting, and fighting—it's a pirate's life for him. He's never been able to stay away from danger, and Charlotte Davenport—the impudent little witch disguising herself as a member of his crew—seems like the most dangerous creature he's ever encountered.

Striking a bargain to bring her home is an easy trade for having her warm in his bed . . . But bringing her home means saying goodbye, which is harder than he anticipated.

When you're a vicious sea monster like him, being alone is the wisest course of action, but once they reach Atlantis, Lirian vows to help Charlotte see her journey through—wherever it leads.

Contains mature themes.

This is the first book by this author for me. I kept hearing good things about this one and decided I'd give the audiobook a listen. The story is very much a monster romance with pirates and all sorts of strange worlds mingling together. It was fun.

I enjoy listening to Justine Eyre in anything she does, so the narration was mostly good. The male narrator was good for male voices, but his attempt at a female voice was less so - not terrible, but not good either.

Well, that was interesting

I love most C.M. Nascosta books and this is just another great story in an entirely different fantasy world. I love the navigation between planes and pirates. I loved how they were both shape changing monsters of the sea, tho she was much more on the Greek mythology horror side for sure. All of that was great and I'm all for more!

However, I absolutely hated the narrators. The woman sounds like she was 90 years old and the man's narration was just boring and too American for the dialogue. I preferred his voice though because her voice was just so annoying and scratchy. It was just jarring going back and forth between these two accents in dual narration instead of duet. Honestly, it would've been fine if he just narrated the entire book because nothing could've fixed that woman's voice and I'm going to avoid books she has narrated.

Hated the narrators, loved the story

I have read/listened to every book I could find by CM Nascosta & have loved them all until this story. It seemed like it was written by a different person. The character building was vague which may have been intentional but made the story hard for me to follow. World building was also lacking. I kept waiting for a reveal. I almost stopped listening at several points because the FMC narrator was so hard to listen to. I looked her up & she has received many accolades, her style just seemed not to match with the FMC. The voice she used would’ve been appropriate for an old woman in my opinion, her narration was almost choked sounding. The MMC narrator was great until he had to voice female characters, his rendition of the female voices was painful, sounding to me like an ultra lispy rendition of a “gay man” voice. So bad. Unfortunate.

I’m sad about this book

Very enjoyable story. I love how they didn't go the easy sea creature route with mermaids (and that's saying a lot since I love them so much they're most of the decor in my house lol)
Only downer for me was I usually enjoy the female narrator more but this wasn't her best. She's not horrible- she's just had better.

Love that it joins 2 of my fave genres

I have always been a huge fan of C.M. Nascosta, so when I found out they were writing a pirate/monster romance novel I couldn’t wait to read it!! And I wasn’t disappointed at all! I loved the story and both narrators did a fantastic job!

Loved this book!!
