Love is a dangerous game to play.
Forced to open the borders of his territory, closed to the outside world since he was a teenager, Alpha Dean Reynolds has now been charged with hosting the prestigious Alpha Games. The event will draw the strongest and bravest shifters from all around, looking to prove they're good enough to become the new alpha. All coming from pack's that hate his own.
When a group of dangerous rogue wolves turn up, their pushy leader demanding to compete, he's living his worst nightmare and Jamie's a distraction he could do without. A run-in with a brutish alpha is the last thing Jamie needs when all she wants is to keep her family safe. After making it clear her mere existence is offensive to him, Dean's the last person she expects to come to her rescue, but with her place in the competition at stake, Jamie determined not to give in to the pull she feels.
It doesn't matter how much Dean's growing on her, her dream has always been to be the leader of her own pack, and she's not going to let a little thing like love stand in her way.
A dual POV, MF wolf shifter romance with enemies to lovers, forced proximity, fated mates, a dominant alpha male, and lots of spice.

The duet narration was great! I liked the first half of the story, but the ending ruined it for me.
The best part about reading is escaping to a world unlike our own, so I was disappointed when it felt like parts of this book resembled the masoginistic characteristics of our society. Specifically, when the MMC was not held accountable for his transgressions and didn't apologize, but then the FMC was made to gravel and prove herself over and over again. This is the second time I've encountered this scenario in a book, and both times it triggered very intense feelings of frustration and injustice.
The MMC was hiding the FMC's mother from her and had sex with the FMC while knowing full well that he was keeping a huge secret from her. Regardless of his reasoning, that is a huge lie and incredibly hurtful. His argument was that she was spying for information and deceiving him, but thats exactly what he was doing. They both took actions that hurt the other. Although her comment to him during their argument was hurtful, it doesn't negate his actions. The FMC had to bend over backwards to prove herself while the MMC did not, which feels all too similar to how women are treated in our society.
It's also important to note that all trauma is relevant and deserves to be acknowledged. Just because the pain and abuse he endured as a kid was horrible, does not negate her own suffering. Whether or not one suffering was worse than another is not an excuse to dismiss what someone went through.
Which is why the FMC also deserved to express her feelings about her mom not looking for them. While her mom had her reasons, her kids still deserve to feel anger, saddness, and any other emotion, and it feels like the FMCs reaction to seeing her mom again was subdued or lessened.
Great Duet Narration
