Phoenix was becoming a pressure cooker nearing bursting open, as the sequestered group of savant scientists and soldiers in the glass-domed pods in Antarctica were buzzing with sexual tension.

Brad McCormick figured since the limbic system associated with sexual desire is linked to libido and the part of the brain responsible for higher-level functions, like planning and thinking, he had a problem he couldn’t solve without his leadership team. To put it more explicitly, the men were extremely sexually eager.

Unbeknownst to the threat of external forces, the new Phoenician code of conduct, their scientific discoveries of new technologies and DNA manipulations hold the key to human survival—a blueprint for a new world, where the old divisions and conflicts become nothing more than relics of the past.

This is a low-action, high-science-fiction fantasy story with bouts of silliness, steamy M/M romances, a wedding, and a "Quik-Fix Hall.”

Phoenix Code is a prequel to the New Beginnings M/M series by Kashel Char. It is a re-edit of the original published work titled Men of Phoenix, written by Stefan Pride. Stefan invited Kashel to co-author and update it with fresh thoughts, preparing it for an audiobook recording. It was re-titled Phoenix Code Copyright © 2022 by Kashel Char and Stefan Pride.

I am a huge fan of the original book. So with the third book in the series now out on audio, I thought I better listen to this updated version of the Phoenix Code. Oh my gosh! This was even more incredible than the original. And the original blew me away. The meat of the story is still the same, but the new additions help enhance the overarching story line across the series. Some of the changes are subtle and some are huge like the addition of vampires and a time traveler. I can't wait to see how it all plays out in the next two books. People often wish they could go back and read a favorite book again for the first time and that's exactly what this felt like. I got to laugh, cry, gasp, and relive this story again for the first time. Once again Juan was a favorite character of mine. He and Drew got to shine a little bit more in this book (go listen to Just Like a Butterfly, a New Beginnings novella for their story). Whether you have listened the original or this is brand new to you, you will fall in love with the men of Phoenix. The world building is incredible, there is a diverse cast of characters, and the plot sucks you in. The narration was done very well. I enjoyed all of his different accents for the characters.

Incredible!

“What science fiction writers have written about for decades, and scientists have theorized for years, has finally happened"

Oh my, what a ride!!!

This is book 1 in a series called New Beginnings by Kashel Char. This story is by a new to me author and new to me narrator. What a great post-apocalyptic book. It's so original and well thought out, I haven't read or listened to anything quite like it before.

The narrator did a fantastic job. All those characters... each with a different voice that the narrator created, were simply amazing. Bravo, Johnathan Waters.

Kashel created a story that brought humor, laughter, sadness, and tears. After listening to the book I went back and replayed pieces and parts. I'm sure I'll end up listening to the whole thing again, I do that on the stories I really enjoy.

The moral codes for some have to be set aside. This is a whole new world from what they've known before. No women definitely creates an interesting conundrum.

Lasitor was hilarious and I enjoyed how he started off each chapter.

If you like this type of book I highly recommend!!! Now I'm off to the next book in the series.

Both the author and narrator are new-to-me. I found the narrator Jonathan Waters very engaging, the voices and characters were well done and easily distinguishable. It was a great performance and I’ll definitely seek out his other works.

The story is post-apocalyptic sci-fi spec-fic, not a genre or style I usually read but I was excited to give it a try. The book follows many characters as this station of 100% men attempts to begin again after the Doomsday events. The stories are very dramatic and remind me of a soap opera in its extremes – character traits, reactions, events, etc. It’s thought-provoking as it makes one wonder how we would react in a similar situation of creating a new world order. I had a bit of confusion with the time travel parts. I believe it's a me issue and that I'd follow the dates/timelines better in ebook format.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of the audiobook.

***spoilers***

I liked this book. It was a bit 😟 sometimes, but I did like the plot and the characters. There is a lot of various POV and it jumps around a bit and can get kinda confusing keeping track of all the characters. Also there was a time traveler and a vampire that are just not explained at all where they came from or what their point is. Since this is a trilogy I am guessing these questions get answered in future books. This is not a romance! There is a lot of sex though. I really liked the exploration of sexuality. I also felt the base was pretty authentic and while I think the choices made by characters were kinda dumb I think it's exactly how a society of absolutely no women would go 😬. Looking forward to listening to the next book in the series to see what tlin the world is even going on 😆
The narrator did a great job!

Enjoyable but leaves unanswered ???
