This is book one in Ryans The Hired series and a good start to the series. It can be read / listened to as a standalone, there is no cliffhanger or teaser. This is also an Omegaverse story set in a modern world, While I typically don't gravitate to Omegaverse romances, I was intrigued by this book and series. In this world, Alphas are treated much like prisoners with a few selected for use in heat cycles with heavy precautions and guards in place. Austin is an alpha who's looking forward to spending some time at the Haven being used to service those in heat for the time he's allowed to do so before knowingly being sent to a camp. Sandra a well to do omega has decided to use the Haven to assist her thru her next heat cycle, and I love how thorough she prepares. I also love that she is inexplicitly drawn to Austin from the beginning and how he reacts and tests her on their first meeting. My overall take is I enjoyed the storyline, I think the narration would have been better as a dual, at times it felt monotone but was able to change some pitch/tone to differentiate characters, some of the writing was repetitive but all in all I enjoyed it and am looking forward to more from Ryans and this series.

Having already read the book, I was really excited to learn that it was now also available in audiobook. The thing with audiobooks are that sometimes they can make or break the voices that us readers have already imagined in our heads. The narrator in the book did a really amazing job, even with voicing the female characters. He didn't miss a beat and kept me interested in what was going to happen next even though I already knew what was going to happen.

This is a MF Omegaverse story but it's not the typical MF Omegaverse. Most of the books I've read in this genre, the Alpha dynamics are usually in charge. This author real changes thing up in this one and it's really a nice change. Our Omega heroine is the one who ends up saving the hero in this book. She's smart and successful and doesn't have to hide her dynamics at all. Like I said, a very refreshing take on this genre that can be quite dark and disturbing. One of the few authors who I usually recommend for first time readers of this genre.

This is such a wonderfully different than other Alpha/omega stories. All the others are so dark. This one is a true romance. Sweet and happy! I really recommend this book.

I did like this book. It gave me a different perspective on Alphas and Omegas. I wish the story had more background on how the Alphas were separated from the rest Society. I did appreciate all Sandra had to go though to complete her mate bond,and that she wanted to settle down. I do like the idea that Sandra and Austin want to make make it easier for others to form bonds and live together cohesively. I plan on reading the other books in this series. The narration wasn't bad. It was just one note. The emotion of the characters could have been reflected better.
