We are looking for creators with bold ideas, strong creative voices and unique perspectives who are excited about developing stories for audio.
Whether you’re a writer, performer, filmmaker, podcaster or storyteller working in another creative discipline, we welcome projects that can be imagined and experienced through sound.
The Program
The Audible Creator Development Program is a three-day intensive designed to support emerging scripted audio storytellers in Newark and the surrounding North Jersey region, facilitated by ABF Creative. Through masterclasses, hands-on workshops and industry exposure, participants will develop and shape their projects for the audio medium.
This initiative brings together a cohort of approximately 15 creators who see audio as a natural extension of their work, whether you are adapting an existing piece, exploring a new storytelling format or looking to deepen audience connection through sound.

Who Is This Program For?

This program is for content creators with written works, filmmakers, performing artists, cultural workers, and thought leaders who have a project they’re ready to bring to life in audio.
Prospective participants include but are not limited to:
  • Oral historians / Storytellers
  • Authors / Writers
  • Creators working in audiobooks, audio series, and podcasts
  • Filmmakers, performing artists, and cultural workers
  • Poets
  • Thought leaders/practitioners whose work translates into scripted audio (e.g., guided storytelling, meditations)

What You'll Gain

The program provides a comprehensive overview of the audio industry, practical guidance for bringing projects to life. Participants will explore different pathways to help determine the best route for their work.

  • 3 full days of workshops and panels at Audible, ABF Creative Studio or other Audible affiliated facilities in Newark.
  • Guided visits to Newark-based production studios
  • $150 daily stipend ($450 total) for participant time.

We are looking for narrative-driven original works like essays, manuscripts, short stories, oral histories — anything that can be scripted and recorded. At this time, conversational or chat-based formats, such as talk shows or traditional podcasts, are outside the scope of the program.
This program welcomes creatives from all walks of life that would like to explore audio as a natural next step in their storytelling journey. Oral Histories, Essays, Poetry, technical guides, thought leadership and other forms of narratives that translate powerfully into a listening experience. At this time, conversational or chat based formats, such as talk shows or traditional podcasts, are outside the scope of the program.
Creative samples must be one of the following formats: MP3, DOC/DOCX, or PDF files (maximum total of 300 MB). Please note all files will need to be included at time of submission. Once your application is submitted you will not be able to send additional attachments.

Participants leave the program with a stronger understanding of the audio industry and a supportive local creative network. Over three days of workshops and panels hosted at Audible and affiliated facilities in Newark, participants gain insight into multiple audio pathways, including audiobooks, podcasting, and other distribution platforms while learning about local studios and production resources.
The end result is a connected community of Newark-area creators equipped with knowledge, tools, and relationships to continue developing their work in audio.

ELIGIBILITY

Individuals must be 18 or over and residents of the Newark and the surrounding North Jersey region to be eligible to apply for consideration. Employees of Audible, Amazon, or any companies owned or operated by Audible or Amazon are not eligible to participate in the Audible Creator Development Program.

TIMELINE

Due to submission volume and time constraints, Audible will only consider one application at a time from each applicant and will not consider resubmissions, including those that have been significantly revised. The Creator Development Program team evaluates submissions on a rolling basis, and applicants will be notified regarding the status of their submissions via email.

CONDITIONS

All submissions must be the original, and must not be based on any third-party intellectual property. By submitting a project, each applicant represents and warrants that: (a) the submitted project and all materials contained therein (collectively, the "Project") are the applicant's 100% original creation, (b) the Project does not and will not violate or infringe the rights (including copyrights and rights of privacy and publicity) of any other person or party, and (c) the Project is exclusively owned or controlled by the applicant. Audible may determine, in its sole discretion, that an applicant is ineligible to submit a project for consideration if these requirements, and others described in the submission requirements, are not satisfied to Audible's satisfaction.
The applicant understands and acknowledges that: (1) Audible is in the business of developing and distributing content, (2) Audible receives numerous submissions of content ideas and creative materials from both external and internal sources, (3) Audible continually develops ideas, formats, shows, stories, concepts, artwork, music, and similar content, and (4) content developed or distributed by Audible may resemble or be similar to material or elements found in Projects submitted to Audible for consideration. By submitting a Project through this program, each applicant understands and agrees that Audible is not prohibited or restricted from developing or distributing content that may contain material similar to an applicant's submission. Audible will not be obligated to any applicant in any manner if such similar material was developed or obtained by Audible independently or from sources other than the applicant's submitted Project. The applicant hereby waives any and all claims related to the use of any such similar material that may have been independently created by Audible or any other individual or entity, or that may have come to Audible from any other independent source.
These terms and conditions are made in and shall be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York and the courts of New York located in New York, New York shall have exclusive jurisdiction with respect to disputes arising under this Agreement.
