Historia
Dennis E. Taylor, author of the best-selling Bobiverse trilogy, explores a whole different, darker world in this sci-fi stand-alone. Determined to give his wife and children a better life back home, Ivan Pritchard ventures to the edge of known space to join the crew of the Mad Astra as an asteroid miner. He's prepared for hard work and loneliness—but not the unthinkable. After coming into contact with a mysterious alien substance, Pritchard finds an unwelcome entity sharing his mind, and a disturbing physical transformation taking place.

What makes us human?
In this second effort (can you say that when your first effort was a mega-best-selling trilogy?), Dennis E. Taylor showcases a new side of his talents. A little more contemplative in tone, the story here is a bit more of a slow burn than Bobiverse — but the style is effective in setting up an intriguing mystery that builds over the course of the story. Ray Porter, as always, is a gem. His ability to take a line of dialogue and — with accent, tone, and cadence — instantly shape what feels like a living, breathing character is unmatched. And after four books and two universes, it’s safe to say we’ve established one of those unique, pitch-perfect author/narrator pairings.
