In 1979 I became the first American social scientist allowed to do research in the PRC, where I documented the collapse of the commune system, the massive human rights abuses of the Mao years, and personally witnessed the forcible abortion and sterilization of women under the newly announced "one-child policy." The experience aroused me out of my academic slumber and led me to embark upon a career of writing and lecturing. My latest is called the Bully of Asia, and deals with China's effort to overturn the current U.S.-led world order and replace it with one dominated by China. In a world bristling with dangers, only one enemy poses a truly mortal challenge to the United States and the peaceful and prosperous world that America guarantees. That enemy is China.Read more Read less
