Miles received an MA and PhD from Georgetown University in political science (comparative world politics) and an MDiv from Princeton Seminary (Biblical studies). He long served as a political science professor, founding and heading up the University of South Alabama’s International Studies Program – also serving as a political-risk consultant to various American corporations. He then went on to become a street and prison minister, then a pastor of three Presbyterian congregations. Finally, he “retired” to 18 years of service as a social dynamics, history, and French teacher at a Christian high school in Eastern Pennsylvania. In those many years as professor, pastor, and teacher, he researched and taught – both young and old – America's and other cultures' histories … as a "laboratory" of sorts, one designed to bring to a clearer understanding what it is that causes the rise and fall of societies. Ultimately he focused that interest on America's long-standing covenant with God – and what it has meant to this nation – publishing in 2020 a three-volume American history carefully describing that special relationship. And most recently he published a personal account of his own spiritual journey … from cynical realism to a born-again Christian faith.
