My entire life, it seems like I've made shaky decisions and passed them off as working on my "About the Author" page. This is my big chance to prove I wasn't lying! I grew up in rural Alabama. As a little kid, I cut grass for money, so my parents would take me to the used book store. When I was a little older, helping harvest hay on a farm or being the fry cook at a Mexican restaurant gave me the money for my literary addiction. In college, I wrote for campus newspapers and every creative writing course I could get, even though I majored in history. While I was in the army, I wrote stories influenced by the places I was deployed or stories about everyday things back home. There was a whole series of achingly terrible poems about Christmas with the family I penned in Bosnia for the holidays. Now I'm actually publishing all of these scribbles. I've visited 48 countries, quite a few of them at taxpayer expense. I was stationed in Germany and traveled all through Europe. I'm a huge history nerd, so on weekends, I'd rent a car and find a castle or the site of some battle to explore. At home, my favorite place to visit as a boy was Horseshoe Bend National Military Park, where my Grandaddy and I would walk the battlements of a Redstick War Battlefield. There's so much cool stuff to learn, and I'm going to try to absorb it all!
