Jack Sanders is the pen name of German author Christian Schirmer. Under this name, he writes atmospheric crime novels and thrillers that combine real locations, psychological tension and classic investigative work. His stories range from the Black Forest and the lakes of Schleswig-Holstein to the coasts of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The settings are never mere backdrops; they shape the characters, the conflicts and, in many cases, the crimes themselves. Jack Sanders first became known for “Winter & Berg – Die Ermittler von Freudenstadt”. The series follows Chief Inspector Ben Winter and Detective Chief Inspector Lena Berg as they investigate crimes in the Black Forest, where the apparent tranquillity of small towns often conceals old loyalties, buried truths and personal darkness. In the successful cold-case series “Seezeichen”, Svea Johannsen and Fenja Stein investigate crimes in and around Plön. Between lakes, shorelines and small communities, they uncover cases whose traces often lead far into the past. The series combines traditional police work with psychological suspense and a distinctly northern German atmosphere in which the past never disappears completely. Sanders adopts a darker and more intense tone in the “Kreideblut” series. Set between Stralsund, Rügen and Hiddensee, the books follow Jana Kroll, Tom Wrieth and forensic pathologist Leyla Öztürk as they confront cases shaped by violence, control and long-hidden secrets. The Baltic coast is shown not only as a popular holiday region, but also as a landscape of contrasts, where beauty and danger exist side by side. Further series such as “Ebbe & Schuld” and “Deister Crimes” reveal different sides of his work: sometimes morally complex and told from unusual perspectives, sometimes focused on a close-knit investigative team and crimes whose first explanation is rarely the whole truth.
