Endorsements for Loving the Fire: Choosing Me, Finding Freedom: Marianne Williamson: “Many women today feel pregnant with a new sense of self, knowing we have to let go of who we were in order to give birth to someone new. This can lead to painful decisions as well as liberating breakthroughs. Deborah Santana knows well the process of spiritual rebirth, and dispenses wisdom as only someone who has experienced it can. Sharing her own story and the lessons that she learned from it, she shares the power that she gained.” Isabel Allende: “Deborah describes a life of deep spiritual transformation with beauty and grace. Drawing from her parent’s legacy of excellence, she became the pillar of her family in a complex marriage, raising three talented children, and eventually finding freedom to become the courageous and fiercely independent woman that she was meant to be. Her social activism and philanthropy change the lives of women and girls. This memoir is a window into an extraordinary life.” Natalie Baszile: “Deborah Santana’s luminous new memoir Loving The Fire: Choosing Me, Finding Freedom, is a fiercely courageous declaration of selfhood. Told with grace, humility and unflinching candor, Santana takes us on a journey, from her humble beginnings in Louisiana to Northern California, across the ocean to the motherland and back again. Every chapter offers a window into the pivotal moments, encounters, connections and lessons that forged her. How Santana has lived so fully is a wonder and an inspiration. This book is a gift to be cherished and shared.” Dr. Judith Orloff: “Loving the Fire takes us on a journey of self-discovery, compassion, and courage. Deborah Santana, once a student and now a teacher in her own right, embodies the healing power of empathy and intuition. Her journey inspires us all to live with purpose, curiosity and gratitude.” LaTanya Richardson Jackson: “Deborah Santana’s quiet demeanor is camouflage for the courageous, warrior woman she truly is. With sound introspection, and a candidly honest examination of herself, she takes us on a grand and entertaining journey into finding, embracing, and accepting the person God purposed her to be on earth. A most rewarding follow up to her memoir 'Space Between the Stars'.” Sharon Salzburg: “With an honest warmth, Deborah Santana writes about what it means to begin again—not by erasing the past, but by holding it with kindness and courage. In sharing her story, Deborah offers more than a personal narrative—she offers permission to believe that it is never too late to live a more full life.” Mirabai Starr: “Deborah Santana elegantly embodies the interdependence of spiritual practice and compassionate action. This captivating memoir braids the luminous strands of intimate relationship, personal liberation, and dedication to uplifting the lives of those on the margins. Her suffering is the fuel that supercharges a life of service to others. Highly recommended.” Renee Swindle: “Lyrical and brave, Santana writes with the wisdom of a woman who has learned to listen to her spirit and reminds us that reclaiming oneself and following the call of the heart can lead to a joyful, purpose-filled life.” Thomas Allen Harris: “Like a breath of fresh air, Loving the Fire is beautiful, light-filled, and intimate. Deborah Santana traces her journey from her deep multicultural roots in the American South and West to the hidden costs of a life lived in proximity to stardom. Coming into her deeper self, she guides readers on a soulful passage through Mexico, Africa, and postcolonial feminist thought. Santana paints in words a deeply spiritual and uplifting family album that illuminates the value of courage—of seeking and following one’s heart—despite outward pressure to conform and settle. Refreshing and nourishing, this memoir is a treatise on how to access one’s inner power. It is as restorative as a glass of cool water to the parched.” Natalie Goldberg: “I was not able to stop reading Loving the Fire. Not only to follow Deborah’s journey - especially her childhood, her parents, and her deep care for her own children - but her own growth, her support in helping spread the truth and heritage of Black people. I love this book on so many levels. So glad Deborah Santana became a writer.” Jim Blake: “Deborah Santana’s story reflects a journey of courage, resilience, and spiritual growth. Loving the Fire promises to inspire readers seeking authenticity and empowerment, and I celebrate her commitment to living truthfully and uplifting others.”
