Chris Smith is a dad, okra lover, plant friend, seed saver, writer, and the executive director of Utopian Seed Project. His book, The Whole Okra, won a James Beard Foundation Award in 2020. Chris received the Organic Educator Award from The Organic Growers School, was named a Champion of Conservation by Garden & Gun. and was a Grow Appalachia 2025 Appalachian Foodways Practitioner Fellow. A native of the UK, Smith has a master’s degree in creative writing from the University of Manchester. His short stories have been published in Nashville Review, Mid-American Review, and The Manchester Review; his non-fiction has been published in The Guardian and gardening magazines across North America.
