When Catharine H. Murray lost her six-year-old son to cancer, she thought she would never recover. Fourteen years later, she inspires audiences with her story of healing and offers writing as a way through grief. As an author, writing coach, speaker and workshop leader, she holds an unshakable conviction that given a chance to listen to and express our own inner wisdom and pain, we all can move deliberately from grief to joy. Her memoir, Now You See the Sky, the launch title for Ann Hood's line of books on grief, Gracie Belle, published by Akashic Books in November, tells the story of the loss of her child. In January it was chosen as Book-of-the-Month by Reading Your Way Through Grief, an outreach of The Compassionate Friends, a nationally renowned grief organization, and in February it was #1 on the Portland Press Herald’s Best-Seller list for non-fiction. Murray resides in Portland, Maine with her two sons where she teaches English to refugees, immigrants and asylum-seekers. She travels to lecture at hospitals and universities about the power of writing to heal and the lessons she learned as the mother of a cancer patient navigating two cultural approaches to healing.
