Caleb is the teen visionary behind Peacebunny Island, where he and youth guardians train domestic rabbits to become comfort animals. After renting for a summer, he began paying the mortgage on a 22-acre Mississippi River island where volunteers provide a short-term "summer camp" for rabbits with an outgoing disposition, preparing them for the "Peacebunny Unit; their programs are under the umbrella educational nonprofit organization called the Peacebunny Foundation, which employs a service-learning model for youth as they engage with Caleb's rabbits. The Foundation's animal-assisted activities and crisis response programs have traveled nationally to support people who are dealing with loneliness, trauma and grief, and volunteers have regularly brought comfort rabbits to visit seniors at assisted living homes and hospice. Another volunteer team, the "STEMbunnies Unit" continues to hosts events to share fun facts, getting kids of all ages excited about animal science facts and observations. His memoir, written when he was 16 years old, focuses on the early years and the inspiration to create Peacebunny Island. He still lives in Minnesota with his mom and dad... and continues to help care for a colony of rare heritage breed rabbits and a cadre of other furry friends.
