Barry Spielman was born in the US and later moved with his family to Israel. He has served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) since 1989, first in the career army and later in the reserves, in a variety of Military Public Affairs positions. In this capacity, he is intimately acquainted with the historical and current battlefields in Israel and over the years has lectured and taken hundreds of foreign visitors to these sites. He is currently a lieutenant colonel in the IDF reserves. Since leaving the career army, Barry has worked as a marketing professional in the Israeli high-tech industry. He holds a BA in Political Science from Bar Ilan University in Israel and an MA in National Security Studies from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He also has an MSM in Business Administration from Boston University. Barry is a lifetime Civil War buff and has logged countless hours on the Gettysburg battlefield. He is an avid sports fan, half-marathon runner, guitar player, and a diehard Mets fan. He and his wife, Mindy, live in Israel, as do their children, Michal, Oren (and his wife, Atira), Noa, and Yadin.
