Founded in 1899, AM Best is the largest credit rating agency in the world specializing in the insurance industry, as well as a leading news publisher and data analytics provider. AM Best rating services assesses the creditworthiness of and/or reports on over 16,000 insurance companies worldwide. Best's Credit Ratings are independent, indicative and interactive, and summarize our opinion on an insurance company's ability to pay claims, debts and other financial obligations in a timely manner. AM Best information services integrates credit ratings, commentary, research and analysis with insurance news, financial data and thought leadership to help consumers and professionals make more informed personal and business decisions. Headquartered in the United States, the company does business in over 100 countries with regional offices in New York, London, Amsterdam, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Mexico City. Arthur Snyder III, the Chairman, President and CEO of AM Best, came across a reference to AM Best as the first credit rating agency years ago. While doing research to validate this claim, Mr. Snyder began a journey to chronicle the history of AM Best and its founder, and ultimately the credit rating industry. The AM Best Business Trilogy has its roots in the idea that all stories have context. “I wanted to tell the complete story, with all the layers peeled back one by one,” said Mr. Snyder. “If we are to understand the development of the credit rating industry, we must follow the progression of the first credit rating agency. And if we are to comprehend that, we must grasp the nature of the man. The Company and The Industry intertwine themes of ingenuity, perseverance, crisis and opportunity, while The Man tracks the journey of one man whose life embodied all of these.” Mr. Snyder is the third generation of the Snyder family to lead AM Best. The Trilogy is a tribute to his father and grandfather; the founder, Alfred M. Best; and all those who helped make the company what it is today. To honor the AM Best’s leadership, Mr. Snyder wanted to find a way to pay the company’s success forward by reinvesting in the community in a substantial, ongoing way. To that end, the AM Best Foundation was formed—a nonprofit which supports charitable organizations that encourage education and thought leadership in insurance and risk management. A portion of the proceeds from The AM Best Business Trilogy will be donated to the AM Best Foundation.
