Publisher's summary

Sadie Powell is going on an adventure. After her beloved mother has a health scare, Sadie decides it's finally time to see the world. So, Sadie crosses the Atlantic to work as an au pair for a year. Austria's supposed to be nice: chocolate, beer, and scenic mountain ranges beckon. She'll figure out teaching and living with an Austrian family along the way.

Inga Weber trusts only herself. Ever since her husband of twenty years left her for an Instagram model, Inga's opted to homeschool her three children. Better keep them close so they can't get hurt. Except it turns out it's hard to keep an au pair on staff when Inga's expectations tower higher than the Alps. Exercises, punctuality, and rigor grind down even the best candidates.

When Sadie arrives at Inga's doorstep, her fate seems clear. She'll be sacked like the rest of them, inadequate in the face of precise demands. Except something about Sadie's warm smile and caring green eyes makes Inga falter. Though the two diverge in their approaches to life, maybe this time, it's different.

Maybe this time, Inga's met someone who can melt her frozen heart.

Contains mature themes.

So unexpectedly good.

Entertaining precisely written story that is so unexpectedly good; read by a well coupled narrator. I have enjoyed this story several times and will continue to do so.

Refreshing

Grateful this story avoided the typical melodrama that is so often found in this genre (near lifelong misunderstandings, prolonged denial of feelings, over the top ice queen and other contrived angst). Enjoyed the unfolding of the romantic relationship between the main characters as well as the evolution of the familial characters. There is also very little self-loathing and martyrdom proving it is totally okay to present characters who evolve, accept and embrace good fortune without a knock-down, drag out fight. Narration is also well done.

Beautifully Written. Narrated Brilliantly.

A wonderfully exquisite and emotional journey. Lily Craig avoids all the cliche'd tropes that stifle most sapphic stories and delivers thoughtful and intelligent writing. Gabra Zackman's narration draws the reader in and expertly captures each scene and emotion perfectly. A wonderful book that I'm pleased to add to my library. Well done!

Beautiful Growing Pains with Lots of Love and Spice

Don’t be put off by the title. This is both a family story and a spicy romance! Hard to imagine carrying that off but the author does so with insight into both adult and child/teen souls. The narration and accents are wonderful. My only criticism is there was no prologue and I felt my HEA was a bit shaky. So without spoiler alerts, I will tell you that our heroine’s mom comes at Christmas, cooks for the family and begins visiting the farmer’s market every day. She becomes “Oma” (German for grandmother) to the family, falls in love with a French chef who has a popular booth at the market and a daughter who married an Austrian. Our heroine teaches English as a career, while honing her skills and becomes a famous artist. Our ice queen proposes to teach ur heroine when some business is official. Oma and her chef love cater the wedding and he proposes. Everyone loves each other! The ex leave town on an “eat, pray, love” thing, starts wearing robes and posts a lot of chanting rituals. I feel better now!

Sadly, I was sleeping on this book but I'm wide awake now.

I've seen this title on numerous occasions and for whatever reason, I never added it to my library. I don't know why either because I love Ice Queens/Age Gap romances. Today, while browsing for a new read, I came across this title again so, I immediately added it to my library and commenced to reading. I couldn't put it down. I loved the way everything between Sadie and Inga just flowed, their relationship was gradual, unforced and plausible. I connected with both characters but mostly Sadie. The way she reads people and assesses situations before offering her input is her heat. As a mother, I understood exactly where Inga was coming from with how she handled the children after her husband left. She truly thought she was doing what was best for them; as we often do, but she was never opposed to change when Sadie expressed her concerns. She always had their best interests at heart despite how it appeared. There's so much I could say about this book overall and each of the characters but I don't want to accidentally give anything away. This was however, an incredibly beautiful story and though it's my first read by this author, it is now hands down my favorite 'Ice Queen/Age Gap' book involving children. I'll definitely be checking out more of Lily's work.

Excellent story with exceptional narration!

This is an awesome Ice Queen thaw romance. Gabra Zachman is my new favorite narrator, hands down. The only thing that could have made this book more perfect is an epilogue. I need to know what happened long term!

pleasant surprise

I got this book on a whim and was not expecting much from it. I really liked it and thought the narrator's voices and accents were very good. I always knew which character was talking. I may have to look for another lily Craig novel.
