Publisher's summary

He needs a wife. She needs a miracle. Neither of them needs this magnetic connection they can’t deny. Let the pleasure wars begin!

Just so it’s clear, I’m not the kind of woman who sleeps around. And I’m especially not the kind of woman who’d ever sell her body for money.

At least, that’s not who I used to be.

Now, I’m getting on my hands and knees at the orders of the stranger I suddenly call husband. I’m ashamed of what I’m doing. It’s dirty. Wrong. Twisted. And I refuse to acknowledge how good it feels. Especially in front of him.

But we’re stuck together for one year. He has needs. Kinky. Dark. Depraved needs. And he wants me to be the one to fulfill them.

For half of his inheritance, I’ll do it, but if he think’s I’ll be his sweet little submissive, he’s in for the shock of his life...

Great start but...

I really liked the book, but I wish the whole series was available on Audible! The characters are well developed and the story progresses at a good pace, meaning the story isn't cheesy at all! Great, steamy sex scenes too!

Great Story, but.....

For this book, I'd suggest a different female narrator. Loved the story & male narrator overall. Her voice just didn't match up to what the book was about.

Need More STAT!

Gah! I knew it wasn't long enough to do the story justice. Please note that I hate series that have a continuation but I read and listen to them because I know the story is often worth it. The upside is that this wasn't a heart pounding cliffhanger. The downside is that I NEED MORE! STAT! I enjoyed the characters and the direction of the story. I look forward to what comes next. I enjoyed the narrators, too.

Book 1 - The Pleasure Wars

A great start to a new series by Harper West - The Pleasure Wars. I really liked how the BDSM world is introduced in this read / listen. I love these characters too - Killian and his poor lil rich boy. I love how accepting and adaptable he seems to be so far. Ash is a wonderful character too - so defiant and determined. The two make a wonderful mix. Overall I really loved the story line and it has good flow as well. I did however think that the ending was somewhat abrupt. I can be a stand alone but it does leave you wanting more so I'm eager for book 2 - The Dom's Rules. I also was not overly in love with the female narration, there's just something about the tone that comes off wrong for me - it's not bad, just not great - but I loved the story too much to let it bother me.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Was great in spite of the female narrator

Ok sooo I really did like the story and characters but the female narrator is making me think of purchasing the other 2 to avoid hearing her voice.

This was my first time hearing Scott Rider and now he is in my top 10 male narrators.

Pleasurable start to the Pleasure Wars!

Harper West has my attention! What an intriguing start to this story, and fantastic characters. Killian needs a wife in order to gain access to his trust fund. Ashlyn is struggling to make her rent. What better deal than to marry him for a year and come out financially secure? But the conditions may cause a little issue. Ash has to be willing to satisfy her husband. And his tastes are a little on the dark side. Will she be happy and marry him? These two are amazing characters. Killian is complex. He knows what he likes, and won't stand for less. But I loved seeing his vulnerability. It makes him real. Ashlyn is so strong and determined. She has an end goal. While their marriage is a means to an end, the chemistry is off the charts. Loved the start of their journey and I can't wait to see where West takes us. Yes, it does end on a slight cliffhanger, so will be grabbing book 2 when it's released!

A book like this needs a team of narrators that tell a story, and then pull us into the darker world. Lacy Laurel and Scott Rider do just that! Laurel is able to give Ashlyn a slight innocence to her voice, but also lets us feel her need to be with Killian. She adds some perseverance in as well, but it's underlying eagerness that caught my ear. Scott Rider is perfectly cast as Killian. He has an air of class in his voice, very calming, yet demanding and he creates the perfect sound for the dom in Killian. They give a great performance.

And what a deal!

I didn’t expect a cliffhanger but this was a great book. I did go ahead a get the next book in the series because the story is so good and erotic. Basically Ashlyn needs money for school and she is about the be kicked out of her apartment but she doesn’t want to ask her parents for help. Killian needs a wife so he can get his inheritance so of course they strike a deal. But what is a submissive to do when she strikes a deal with a Dom? The only thing is she is so snarky and he is funny. There is a lot of humor in their dynamics which makes you laugh out loud. They both enjoy each other and of course the relationship becomes more, but before it gets there, they act like it’s all about the “deal” and not the lust and true feelings they are developing for each other. Fun read!

female narrator

Aside from Lucy's male voice making it pain for my ears, the story is attracting.

worst narration ever!!!

I don't understand why writers let these horrible narrators ruin their stories. take the time to find a good one because that makes or breaks it. I didn't even finish...

The sex was good

The sex was good, emotional investment was lacking. I never got pulled into the story. I could shut the book off and walk away and then debate with myself if I just wanted to buy a different book. I did listen till the end and found myself unsatisfied with an uninteresting cliff hanger that was mor like a one inch drop.
