Publisher's summary

From USA Today bestselling author Scarlett Scott comes a wonderfully wicked new series...

He was never meant to be a duke. She was always destined to be a duchess.

Grit, determination, and a will of steel have propelled Hudson Stone through life. No case he faced as Chief Inspector at Scotland Yard went unsolved. But nothing could have prepared the implacable investigator for inheriting a dukedom.

Even more maddening than his ducal obligations is Lady Elysande Collingwood, the previous Duke of Wycombe’s betrothed. Worst of all, the debts Hudson has been bequeathed along with the title mean he needs to marry an heiress to save his estates from ruin, and the cheerful, dazzling Lady Elysande is the only one he knows.

Enjoyable story

I enjoyed this story and the lead characters were very likable. My only dislike was that the author used Christ's name as a curse numerous times throughout the story. Otherwise, it was an entertaining listen.

Good story

Why oh why have the man do the women's voice it is terrible since you have the women narrator it would by way better for her to do the women's voice.

Marriage of Convenience!

I love a good marriage of convenience trope, coupled with a murder mystery and plenty of steam and I’m here for it! Hudson is the newly minted Duke of Wycombe after spending his life as a chief inspector at Scotland Yard. After seeing the crumbling and neglected estate he knows he needs to marry for money, and who better than his departed cousin’s betrothed, Lady Elysande? The clever Elysande also has her own reasons for marrying, and they have very little to do with the dashing new Duke. How inconvenient her attraction to Hudson is, though! While they work together to solve a murder, they grow closer and more attracted to each other. I love this couple! Fun book!

it was okay until the last chapter and then nope

there was a lot of silliness in the mystery but it was okay until the very end and then it just got crazy. I was expecting a little bit of drama but it was like level 25 out of 10. and when he the Duke is going off to single-handedly confront the police officer bad guy with just a gun and there might be two bad guys but he won't take his wife or anyone else?? and then he's like I don't care if I die I just want you to be safe and so okay like you don't care that I left alone to mourn your idiotic death?? and she doesn't question him like how about we think about this for 4 minutes or 4 seconds and come up with a better plan?? at that point it was so close I just finished listening to it but I was rolling my eyes hardcore. but I did like them up until the point where the stupidity started. and I did really enjoy the fact that he kept saying she knows her own mind and she gets to make the decision whether she wants to go or not. that was very refreshing.

Sex, Murder, Sex….and oh did I mention sex?

A liberated woman marries a repressed man in a marriage of convenience. In the marriage contract the woman stipulates no conjugal relations for 3 months and the man agrees - the document is signed and well..if you can believe it, they almost immediately start having sex all the time except when “investigating” a murder. Maybe increasing their heart rates gets the creative juices flowing (wink wink). Anyway, the characters are unique. The woman is an inventor and the man is a detective who proudly accepts that his wife is a genius. They work together to solve the murder and live happily ever after and probably have 10 kids unless the woman invents a reliable method of birth control. I enjoyed the couple’s relationship, the light weight mystery, and the first few steamy couplings. I would recommend this audible book - the duel narration is good and keeps the story moving. I am in awe of narrators who can read so many detailed steamy sex scenes without giggling at least once!😂😅

Not just another historical romance

This book has a lot of intrigue. No wasted words - who has time for that?
