In retrospect, it might not have been the wisest idea to hand in my V-card to a hot librarian I picked up at my mother's cocktail party.

In my defense, the man has a French accent, gray hair, and knows a lot about books. The cards were really stacked against me making good choices, folks.

I was probably naïve to expect a call after that, but when he didn't, it hurt to accept he didn't feel that same connection I did.

If that isn't a sign you need to make a change, I don't know what is. Too bad the change I get is six months in a remote French chateau, working as a nanny to an adorable little girl—who happens to be the daughter of the single dad I had sex with in a grocery store parking lot.

Ellis Delvaux has made it clear he isn't interested in a relationship. Unfortunately, when you're a hopeless romantic spending that much time with someone you're attracted to in what might be the most beautiful place on the planet, things happen.

And sometimes, to avoid those things happening, you come up with a list of rules to facilitate six months of secret, no-strings-attached sex with a man who is as off-limits as it gets.

Both narrators were amazing. Will Thorn is a favorite of mine and while his French accent slipped a bit he was still 10/10.

Story- the ending felt very rushed. The story definitely could have been extended but all in all it was a sweet story.

I read the book but hearing the audio? Even spicier than my mind could have imagined! Still makes me cry and the voice acting was so good!

Does Cleo ever write a bad book? The answer is no. Ellis is absolute French daddy perfection. That’s the review. Five stars. No notes. I will call Ellis, daddy, forever.

Ellis is Daddy

I absolutely loved Second Edition! Jo and Ellis met at a facility mixer at the dean’s house. Jo was there because she is the daughter of the dean. Ellis didn’t know it, and they had a one night stand at that night. The chemistry was there from the beginning. Ellis and Jo are very likable characters. His daughter, Zoe, is a well written autistic child. The set up, where they went to France, him to catalog a private book collection and her to take care of Zoe. The romantic relationship between Ellis and Jo was emotional and spicy with a little bit of daddy kink that just worked. The age gap is 14 years, but they just fit together. I loved Jo and Zoe’s bond! The way Ellis groveled was perfect! Second Edition is one of the best nanny romances I’ve read in a while.

A French Daddy

I never wanted to go to the French countryside as much as I do now that I’ve read this book. Does the French chateau come with the sexy silver fox or is that separate? 😂 I loved this. Jo was relatable in the sense that she’s been “perfect” her whole life. And she doesn’t want to be. She wants love and adventure and to find herself away from the perfect image she shows her parents. She’s patient and a little naive but she’s not afraid to stand up for herself. Ellis is also looking for change. He’s barely floating above the water in his life. After his failed marriage, he threw himself into being the best dad he could be. And when him and Jo meet the first time? It’s explosive. For both, that’s a good and bad thing. Adding Zoe, his cute 6 year old daughter, into the mix adds to the chaos in the best way possible. I loved their love story. The setting, the dialogue and scenes were beautiful and I can’t wait to see what comes next!

This was SO GOOD! Age gap romances can be hard to do right, to make things feel genuine and not icky and Cleo NAILED it. The love story that unfolded in this book was so beautiful I can’t believe that she was able to add so much depth and emotion to such a short book. It was so realistic and touched on some harder topics with such grace. A beautifully and tastefully done age gap romance! The spice was incredible, the love was perfect, the side characters were great!! Seriously 10/10. The French accent here was also chefs kiss

The Story
This book sounded like it would be totally my thing: a nanny/single dad romance with a sexy French hero and a big age gap. The FMC gives her v-card to a hot librarian with a French accent and grey hair, only to later discover he’s her new boss. She goes to work as his nanny in his beautiful French chateau, and they agree on a secret no-strings-attached arrangement. Of course, feelings quickly get involved.

Sounds perfect, right? Unfortunately, the story just didn’t grab me. It was all almost there: almost exciting, almost romantic, almost emotional. I finished the audiobook, but I considered stopping several times. Something was missing that made me really connect with the characters and their chemistry.

There are spicy scenes, especially with the older French single dad trope, but even the spice felt a bit flat.

Solid performance by the narrators. Nothing extraordinary, but definitely enjoyable.

Final Thoughts
Second Edition had all the ingredients for a delicious forbidden age gap nanny romance, but the story remained too surface-level to truly hook me. Not a bad book, but for me, it was just not quite there.
