Publisher's summary

Andi Connor is descended from bad people. With both parents in prison, she’s faithfully attended Northern Lit church since she was practically an embryo in an attempt to avoid their fate. Despite weekly attendance, she still feels lost. She’s out of shape, in debt, and can’t get her small business off of the ground. Her love life is non-existent, and the only person who seems interested is her best friend, Vee, but his apartment is a revolving door. It feels like her life is on autopilot--until the church’s new pastor, Michael Hudson, comes into her life.

They share a visceral connection and a chemistry that’s impossible to ignore. As she realizes her deep seated desires, shame and guilt from her strict religious upbringing begin to plague her. And when a once in a lifetime opportunity comes her way, she must make a choice. Saying yes means discovering herself, finally reaching her dreams, and becoming the person she has always wanted to be. But it also means opening herself up and possibly getting her heart crushed. Saying no provides safety and security-but could still leave her feeling trapped, unchanged.

This book contains portrayals of consensual non-monogamy, BDSM, and abuse, and is not suited for minors.

hard to put down

I enjoyed the story and character development, which is sometimes had to find with good BDSM content. I do think that the narrator's voices for different characters was a little distracting at times, I really enjoyed her natural speaking voice best. I liked that it depicted healthy D/s dynamic vs an unhealthy one. looking forward to listening to the next book in the series.

Am I still blushing?

The authors characters and relationships are multidimensional. They're messy and mostly feel real. I love the theme of sexuality and religion, I think many people can connect with the feelings of shame that comes from it and trying to overcome it. Some parts are a little too dramatic (or way too dramatic) and others are a little too perfect. But its fiction and what romance doesn't have a sexy mysterious stranger or things ending with a happily ever after? The erotic scenes were wonderful. I don't want to go into detail and ruin it for people, but if BDSM is your thing, you will most definitely enjoy yourself.

amateurish story and narration

This story is a mishmash of self-help directions attempted under the aegis of a dom; nondenominational religion in a community that seems utterly unmoored from any of the mundane affairs that real world churches need to face week by week; and bdsm that is curiously light on sex, or maybe I just expected lots more from a narrative titled "Satyress."

The author would have done well to have invested in a professional narrator. At this point, at least, she doesn't have that gift IMHO.

The ending is pretty much the definition of deus ex machina. The author should look up Chekhov's pistol - if you're going to have it go off in the third act, you have to have it hanging on the wall in the first!
