I was a little disappointed when I figured out it was the retelling of book 1 from a different point of view. Once I got into it though, I was floored at the depth of the different characters that I didn't see in book 1. The mixture of the BDSM world with the religious world is very fascinating even for someone that isn't Christian. I would highly recommend this series of books to anyone, especially if you have a slightly kinky side!
