Publisher's summary

The first time I meet the devil, he knows my name.

The second time I meet him, the truth becomes clear: Mark Trevena is to be my husband.

No matter that we don't know each other. No matter that he's older than me; shameless and sinful; the owner of a secret club where the powerful come to play. My father has spoken, and I'll be the devil's bride the minute I graduate from college.

Except my future husband has one condition for this arranged marriage: We have to pretend it’s real.

He’ll teach me, he says. How to pretend to be his in pain and pleasure both. How to pretend to arch and writhe under his touch. But his lessons are teaching me something else entirely...that Mark Trevena wants me in a way that's not pretend at all.

And no matter how I might fight it, the devil will have his due.

meh

the narration was too dramatic and the voice was strangely modulated up and down...not a fluid read of an otherwise interesting book. like it better reading than listening

Mixed feelings

Sierra Simone is one of my favorite authors and I’ve read all her works. This is missing the X factor that her works always bring. The are characters complex, the spice well written, the twists and storytelling all good. And still, the tension isn’t really there. The drive to keep turning the page and having you one the edge of your seat as you take in each line is absent. I’m continuing the series, and hoping the Sierra Simone magic appears as the series continues.

Absolutely AMAZING prequel novella!!!!

Literally binged this one start to finish on a Saturday morning. Couldn’t even be bothered to pause it for my family 😂 It was just that good. This book sets everything up for book 1 of the Lyonesse Triology. I loved having this glimpse at Isolde’s backstory.

Spice level was perfect for a prequel novella, I usually like my books SPICY 🌶️ but found myself perfectly content with this books 2.5/5 on the spice scale. Probably because you can tell it’s setting up the triology to be closer to 4/5 or 5/5 in terms of spice.

The narrator - Isabelle Ruther - was phenomenal! I usually hate one narrator and almost always skip them for a duel narration but I was surprised by how well Isabelle was able to handle doing both the male and female characters including her father who had a crisp British accent and her uncle who had an Irish one. 5/5 stars for narration for sure!

Overall this is definitely a 5/5 star book. I listen to a TON of audiobooks - we are talking like 5 a week minimum…this is hands down the best one I’ve listened to in months! Bravo Sierra Simone!

Excellent prequel

I actually listened to this after Salt Kiss and I think I actually liked that order better, I liked that Isolde was a mystery when I read Salt Kiss. This really shed a lot of light on her story and that mystery made Salt Kiss better.
Isabelle is a new to me narrator and I really loved her delivery of Isolde.

A stunning single POV narration for this prequel novella!!!

All I knew going into to this book was that the whole series was going to be an MMF retelling of Tristan and Isolde but holy crap this novella was beyond anything I thought I was getting into! This is the prequel novella to the Lyonesse Trilogy and I was quickly hooked in once I started and could not look away! Even though my mind is blown with so many questions, I am completely intrigued and also still recovering from that spice! Do not listen to this one while driving! I cannot wait to see what happens next in book 1, Salt Kiss and what Sierra Simone does with this series!

💙Prequel Novella
💙Tristan & Isolde Retelling
💙14 year age gap
💙Arranged Marriage
💙Bdsm/Kink Lessons
💙Virgin FMC

I absolutely LOVED this novella on audio as Isabelle Rather was simply outstanding!!! Not only does her voice fit exactly who you’d imagine for this young virgin woman, but she is just a pro at using emotion in her voice! She performed the heck out of this novella and made me feel everything she went through! I didn’t even miss another POV, because she was that hypnotizing with her voice. Also, can we talk about all of her other voices including her male voice?!? They were just superb and for a second I had to make sure there wasn’t another narrator because she truly sounded like an entirely new person. She was that amazing performing with her voice! I am so glad I grabbed this one on audio and HIGHLY recommend it thanks to Isabelle!

You Don’t want to miss this Prequel

I read this book first then listen to Salt Kiss….then I went back and listen to Salt in the Wound because I wanted more of Isolde and Mark…this prequel builds up Isolde’s character beautifully as a mentally and physically strong coming of age woman who realizes she is being offered by the church and her father to the devil…Mark Trevena. The narrator was superb in her portrayal and I wanted so much more at the end..It will be a torture to wait for the 2nd book - Honey Cut ….Love this series already and hooked on it…

Amazing solo narration + great start to the series

5⭐️ 3🌶️ 5🎧

Producer: Lyric Audiobooks
Narrator: Isabelle Ruther
Narration type: Solo
Standard length: 5:26
Listening speed: 1.5x

Tropes: prequel novella, Tristan + Isolde retelling, virgin FMC, BDSM, arranged marriage, age gap

📖 This was an incredible start to the Lyonesse series! This is first person, single POV (Isolde). We meet Isolde Lawrence while she is finishing up high school and planning to take her vows as a nun after graduation. But her family has other plans — enter Mark Travena, former spook, current elite sex club owner, trader of secrets, and future husband. In order to make the arrangement believable, Mark has to teach Isolde more about his world — what it means to be his submissive. Isolde figures acting should be easy enough, what she doesn’t count on is the real desire that comes with the pain. Her need for Mark only grows over the years of their engagement. And I get it, girl, he is dominant in the absolute sexiest way. I really felt for her as she dealt with confusion and an internal struggle — having previously convinced herself she was sacrificing herself as God’s servant to marry Mark versus now wanting the man for her own desires. She wants to be wanted and loved and has so clearly been neglected and emotionally manipulated by her family. The ending made me so sad for Isolde, but I know it will make her strong and I can’t wait to see her in Salt Kiss ready to kick butt and take names!

🎧 Isabelle Ruther absolutely dominated this solo narration! Her narration voice is medium to high pitch for a female with a warm, yet crisp, clear timbre. She managed to pull off the voice of an 18 year old girl, 32 year old man, and even older men with British and Irish accents. It was always very clear when she was going from narrator voice to dialogue voice. She was able to deliver so much emotion through her voice — I was absolutely riveted through the entire performance. I highly recommend this audio!
