Publisher's summary

Never again would I allow my heart to become the plaything of someone else. Never again would I let a man (or men) come between me and my goals. Never again would I love without feeling the fullness of that love in return. Not until I knew it was real. And if that took me a lifetime to find, so be it.

Those were my vows, and after all that had happened with Connor and Weston, I was determined to keep them. To protect my heart. And then he came home, and my vows became his promises.

He held my heart in his hands with reverence and care. He helped me find my soul's greatest purpose in life. He loved me with a love so pure and vibrant, I knew I'd never feel anything like it in 100 lifetimes. It was real.

Until it wasn't. Until it all came crashing down when I discovered the deep love I thought I'd found was nestled in a web of lies - so soft and silken I hadn't noticed it was there. Until it was too late.

Contains mature themes.

Beautiful, love story

I wish Wes’s injury was not quite so bad, but it made for an interesting story filled with twists and turns I did not expect. Well written with well developed characters. So worth a credit.

My eyes are overflowing

Emma writes characters I remember. This duet is no different. If you need an emotional release, you can find it here. These characters went through the wringer, but love won out.

Perfect

I enjoyed everything about this book. The words, the narrators, all of it! Book one took me a while to get into, but book 2 is perfection!

This series…

I love Teddy Hamilton, this is the first book I’ve listened to with the female narrator, she was the perfect choice for Autumn. I devoured this series, I loved it so much I laughed and cried, and the ending! It was all so beautiful. These were my first Emma Scott books and I loved them so much. Thank you Emma Scott for such a beautiful story and the words that will forever stay with me.

Oh my heart...

I stumbled across this duo by accident and am so very happy I did. Both books were deep - soul deep - causing some seriously lost sleep, but absolutely worth it. The emotion I felt through each chapter just made me root for them, for their hearts to find peace and love to prevail. I shed tears for Wes and Connor and was near devastation at one point. These are both extraordinarily written books and the poetry intertwined adds additional substance and emotion. Great narration and simply didn't want them to end, hoping for bonus epilogues. Highly recommended, especially for romantics out there. Well done 👏👏👏

Sad

This whole story was sooo sad. The h had to endure over 95% of the lie. Both main characters didn’t end together until the end of this LONG senseless story. I wanted to give less than three stars but the story did move well. Like a said, the was sad and inspire at all! Hate both Connor and Weston. No redemption for me.

Soooooooo slooooooooooow

The bones of the story are beautiful. The military plot line is a bit contrived, if I’m being completely honest. But overall, the love Wes has for Autumn is delightful. It’s just…. It gets to a point where the dishonesty, the inability to communicate feelings (in friendship and in love) is truly unbearable at times, and not in a good way. It’s just pretty unrealistic that something like this would get drawn out to the lengths that it takes in this 2-parter. Frankly, a second book was not needed. Unnecessary and frustrating.

Another amazing book by Emma Scott. I could listen to her amazing stories every day, and fly through all of her books. Such a wonderful read

Wow ! So beautiful, sad and interesting

I loved it and I'm not a fan of military movies or book's, but this was really interesting. Two friends, one with a heart of steel and one with a heart of gold. The story was long, but definitely worth. It was a tear jerker, u feel so sorry for W. Later you're so happy for him. ❤️ The male narration was great, the female narrator wasn't bad. This story goes to show u what true friendship and true love is.

Painfully slow

Listen, I’m all for a mutual pining, slow burn, will they/won’t they love story, but this is agonizingly slow. Within the push and pull of the lie, there’s no believable build up. All the tension seems disingenuous and the story feels heavily fabricated. All throughout the first and second book, I found myself listening at 1.75x speed, yelling “just tell her?!” the entire time.
