I've spent years building my tech empire, determined to escape my family's criminal legacy. But when the Ivanov brothers take me captive to control my father, all my careful plans crumble.
My jailer, Erik Ivanov, is nothing like I expected. Behind his icy control burns a darkness that calls to my own. Each time he touches me, my resistance weakens. Each time he claims me, the line between captor and lover blurs.
But falling for an Ivanov is a death sentence. Our families have been enemies for generations, and love won't erase the blood between us. The deeper I fall, the more dangerous this game becomes.
Erik awakens parts of me I've tried to deny—the need to submit, to be owned, to surrender to the beast beneath his careful mask. But when the time comes to choose between family loyalty and the man who's claimed my body and soul, I'm not sure I'll survive the fallout.
They say keep your enemies closer, but no one warned me what happens when you let them into your heart.
Chain Me is a dark Russian mafia romance and the third book in the Beautiful Monsters Series. This dark mafia romance explores themes that may be disturbing to some listeners. However, there is no cliffhanger, and the happily-ever-after ending meaning this book can be listened to as a standalone.

Main Characters and Plot Overview
Erik Ivanov and Katarina are born into opposing mafia worlds, but they approach that world very differently. Katarina has spent years creating distance from her family’s criminal legacy by building a successful tech business. She wants control over her own life and refuses to let her father’s power define her future. Erik, on the other hand, is deeply rooted in family loyalty. He is disciplined, dangerous, and accustomed to putting the Ivanov family above everything else. That certainty starts to crack once Katarina enters his life.
The story begins with Katarina being kidnapped by the Ivanovs as leverage against her father during a growing family conflict. Erik becomes her captor and guardian, creating a classic captive romance setup. Katarina does not spend her captivity quietly accepting her situation. She pushes Erik constantly, challenging his authority and provoking reactions from him. Their relationship shifts from hostility to attraction as Erik starts breaking his own rules for her. The conflict escalates with hostage exchanges, betrayals, and violent family retaliation that repeatedly puts them on opposite sides of loyalty and love.
Highlights and Limitations
The strongest part of Chain Me is the tension between Erik and Katarina. Bianca Cole does not rely entirely on instant attraction. Katarina actively resists Erik’s control, and their banter gives the relationship more personality than simply placing two attractive people in dangerous circumstances. Katarina’s attempts to aggravate Erik while he struggles to maintain his cold, controlled image create some of the better moments in the story.
Erik’s dominant yet protective instincts also become more interesting as the novel progresses. Initially, he sees Katarina as a responsibility and a strategic asset, but later he begins crossing lines he once would not have questioned. His willingness to defy orders to bring her back gives emotional weight to his development.
The book also delivers on the expected mafia romance elements: rival families, betrayals, hostage exchanges, power struggles, and possessive behavior from the hero. Readers looking for enemies to lovers with a heavy dose of danger and steam will probably find what they came for.
The biggest weakness is that some plot developments move very quickly. Erik and Katarina’s emotional transition occasionally feels faster than their circumstances fully justify. There are also moments where the later sections reportedly show inconsistencies in details and characterization, creating a feeling that the pacing becomes more rushed near the end.
Narration
Aaron Shedlock fits Erik well. His voice naturally carries the possessive, controlled energy that dark mafia heroes tend to need. Erik spends much of the story maintaining an intimidating exterior, and Shedlock gives him enough restraint that he does not become a caricature of the growling alpha male.
Stefanie Kay handles Katarina effectively because she balances strength with vulnerability. Katarina is not written as a passive captive heroine, so the performance needs confidence and attitude. Her delivery works particularly well during the confrontational moments when Katarina challenges Erik rather than backing down.
As a dual narration experience, both narrators complement each other well and help separate the two perspectives.
Final Thoughts
Chain Me delivers exactly what its premise promises: a dark enemies-to-lovers mafia romance with captivity, family warfare, and a possessive hero who gradually loses control of his carefully ordered life. Erik and Katarina carry the story because both characters actively push against each other instead of feeling trapped in predictable roles.
The book’s pacing occasionally becomes uneven, and some readers may notice rough spots toward the end, but the chemistry and relationship dynamics keep the story moving, and there is more than enough steam for those readers that love the rough and tumble spice. If you enjoy dark mafia romances where the heroine refuses to roll over and the hero slowly becomes obsessed despite himself, this audiobook is likely to hit the mark.
