I enjoyed listening to Lois Ridge read S. D. Simpers wonderful story.

I was interested and drawn into the story from start to finish. It is hard to find the words to express how much I really enjoyed this story but I will try.

An authors words in black and white was given life that painted a story in my mind.

I am glad I came across this author and look forward to reading and listening to more of her work.

This dark twist on old tales of mischievous fairies will keep your attention from start to finish. The author paints an intricate setting for the story and the narrator is pleasant.

S.D. Simper’s novels and novellas truly don’t miss—and neither do the audiobooks!

I’d read the ebook before, but listening to Lois Ridge narrate Beneath the Loch offered a chance to experience the romance for the first time all over again. Ridge has such a great range and distinguishes characters so well. I especially enjoyed the voice taken on for Olphia, it really matched the tone I imagined in my head the first time I read the novella. I definitely recommend both reading and listening to the story; that way you can experience its impact twice :)

Also, I don’t think just the words above can do this story and audio book exact justice, but if I could type out excited/frantic/elated screaming in the right phonetic configurations, I think that would get pretty close!

I am enjoy listen to this story. I thought the narrating was good. The author explain the world setting and the different beings in it. The horror parts wasn't to bad but there was a shock moment for me but I got passed that. I received a free code for my review.

I enjoyed this novella for the most part. I think the narration was a little over done, which adds the feeling of unnecessary drama to some parts and diminishes the parts where the real dramatic narrating is needed. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but maybe a note for future audiobooks. The writer's descriptions of the fae were very well done. I'm not a visual person when reading but I really felt like I had a decent image of the water fae ( I won't even try to spell her name). All in all a good listen and I'm looking forward to trying more from this author.

I loved this novella. Simper’s story telling is phenomenal, and Ridge’s narration truly brings it to life. I really enjoyed this, and hope to see these characters in more of Simper’s work in the future! 1000/10! Perfect for a walk or a car ride, short and sweet! :)

After reading all of S. D. Simper’s full length novels, I needed more! This novella packed so much into one short story and I was thrilled to have an audible version to listen to! This novella was sweet, creepy, steamy, heart-wrenching; everything I expect from Simper. I’m a sucker for a unique fantasy/sci-fi plot and this dark fairy of the loch love story really did it for me. The narrator really kept me reeled in as well. Go support Simper on Patreon! I enjoyed every second of this story, Mari and Ophelia are my favorite characters. It has erotic horror element with a dark fantasy romance. And the narration was a very interesting thing to listen and made the story more fun. Giving these characters voices to help picturing them in your head better, while listening to it. My favorite is when the takes a more horror romance approach by the end, but still has that romantic fantasy feel.

Beneath the Loch is a darkly whimsical tale of two girls from different worlds who meet in the veil of youthful innocence, only to learn that the human world isn’t made for such friendship. Later, now grown, fate and the cruel, patriarchal world accidentally reunite childhood friends, once estranged, now enraptured. From sea horses to gun-toting religious men, Beneath the Loch is a dark and captivating journey into the mysterious world of atypical romance, which reminds us that the real monsters are often underpinning society itself.

If you are looking for an interesting f/f romance with a dark, mythological twist, this may be the story for you. SD Simper is no stranger to aquatic romance, and Beneath the Loch is a lovely novella to read.

Generally, I enjoyed the story and the characters. The protagonist is delightfully bold yet longs for a quiet life in peace. Yet, the reader may notice that her morality is based on her own feelings of right and wrong, not necessarily that of society. Of course, what has her patriarchal society given her but a marriage arranged without her say and the promise of a future with a lecherous man as shallow as a muddy puddle? No, she needs a love much deeper… like a loch.

Curiously reticent, the love interest is a mysterious woman from the water – her domain is dark, cold, and quite wet. Who is she? What is she? I wish her character had been more fleshed out, though the story is a novella, and its very design is one of fable, almost a folktale. So, perhaps her story will remain as mysterious as the river she inhabits.
