Publisher's summary

Having a baby at my age is crazy enough.
Try throwing another species into the mix.

At 45, I never dreamed I’d be starting over. But here I am, newly single in a new little town. My BFF dragged me out on New Year’s Eve to celebrate my next chapter, and a pair of stunning blue eyes caught my attention.

I definitely wasn’t there to find a new man, but when I felt my cheeks burning at the sight of him I knew it wasn’t just another damn hot flash. So when he asked me to go back to his place to ring in the new year, he didn’t have to ask twice. But we ended up sharing much more than one wild night. I’m technically old enough to be a grandmother, but now I’m pregnant.

On top of that? I just found out he’s part bear. As in not human. In that case, what exactly is growing in my belly? And how can I know I’ll be safe?

Steamy shifter love scenes and an HEA inside! No cheating or cliff-hanger in this stand-alone romance.

Fantastic

I was immediately hooked with this fantastic book. The narrator will pull you in and bring you into the characters lives. So many misunderstandings between Jenna and Chase. I loved how Chase was able to follow his dream and how Jenna did so much to make it happen. This book has so much drama, intrigue, manipulation and so much more. I couldn’t put this book down, with so much happening, I had to find out how it all worked out.

Drama, and action!

This is the second book in the Shifter Nation: Fated Over Forty Series. Chase and Jenna's story is entertaining, and passionate, filled with drama, miscommunication, action, danger, and twists and turns. They are both interesting characters. D.C. Cole did an excellent job bringing this story to life. He is one of my favorite narrators. I enjoyed it. Looking forward to listening to Bear's Midlife Matchmaker, the next book in the series series! Good

I liked the concept of this story- not just an older woman who never thought she'd have a baby, but also discovering shifters are real and that she's having a shifter's baby. The drama with an ex was unexpected, and the dreaded miscommunication / no communication trope- just making assumptions and causing unnecessary heartache- which I did not like.

All turned out well by the end.

D.C. Cole did a good job with the narration- though his female voices were just okay.

Love me strong FMC

One of the biggest draw to these books is that Meg Ripley makes the FMC over 40 and still winning in life. Jenna is the ceo of her company who is killing it. Chase wants to open up a brewery and needs Jenna’s help. But the chemistry between these two is palpable. They needed to communicate better in the beginning but it helped build the tension.

Interesting younger man story

I like that Jenna, the older woman, was strong and independent. I like that she was ambitious and hardworking. I like that Chase wanted more out of his life. Their attraction was immediate and intense. The miscommunication was dragged out, but when it came out the timing felt right. The angst is mid level. The steam is nicely done. The spice is fairly low level. The story is interesting.

Chase and Jenna

Story: Jenna (h45) moves to a new town after a breakup to start a new life and open her own business. On New Year's Eve, she meets Chase (H35) and they have a passionate night together, but the next morning, Jenna leaves before Chase returns, assuming he's not interested in her. To her surprise, Jenna discovers that she's pregnant, and even more shockingly, she learns that Chase is a bear shifter. When she meets Chase again for a business meeting, she mistakenly believes he's involved with another woman and decides to keep her pregnancy a secret. Meanwhile, Chase is determined to pursue a relationship with Jenna and build his dream brewery, but his ex keeps interfering. Misunderstandings and insecurities threaten to keep them apart, and Jenna worries about the pregnancy and Chase being a shifter. Lovely OWYM shifter, fated mates, secret baby romance with plenty of heat and relationship angst.

Audio: The pacing of the narrator was fine, good annunciation, though sometimes words seemed to go soft at times. The narrator did a good job with voicing different male voices, but I rarely am happy when a male narrator is used to voice female characters' dialogue, and this was no exception.

Age gap, life changes, early spice and shifters DU

I'm a big fan of any of Meg Ripley's works especially because they are not the typically younger cast of characters, and you are faced with real issues that pop in them, funny or serious.

Bear's Midlife Baby fits perfectly in this with older leads, starting over, and granny panties. It also plays into some awesome tropes, including but not limited to, age gaps, older women, surprise babies, one-night stands, starting over, men working with their hands, and big dreams.

I was impressed by D.C. Cole's excellent shifts in voice for each of the characters in this book, which made it an enjoyable read. In fact, my friend, who is not usually interested in shifter stories, enjoyed listening to the audiobook during a car ride thanks to Cole's engaging and soothing narration. She was curious to find out how Chase and Jenna's story would conclude, and now plans to pick up the audiobook herself.

Cute

Another good listen. This is Jenna and Chase story. When life needs a new start for Jenna she relocates and opens her business. She meets Chase after a night of celebrating with her friend. Well one thing leads to another. This is quick book with misunderstandings and an ex that wont let go. HEA.

Great Addition to the Series

This was a great addition to the series. The character work and story line were well written. The narrator did a fantastic job of bringing the story to life and made this as fun to listen to as it was to read.
