This story is a dark one. For a short story it had plenty of depth and intrigue. I would reccomend this story to adults.

I enjoyed this one - very short but concise, and Perie Wolford packs a lot into very few words. Nicely unpredictable and a clever ending. Richard L. Walton does a fine job with the narration.

Thank you for the arc audio, I voluntarily give this a honest review. Dylan has a secret that he can't tell anyone about, that is until his boyfriend mark finds out. will Mark turn his back on him when he finds out? can forbidden desires summons something dark to Dylan alone? this book was a WOW factor for me, I loved the darker theme to this book. it maybe be short but it was interesting and intense. loved the darker bdsm style. Loved the narrator take on the characters.

This is a different type of story to the previous book in the series. Not only is there a different narrator but this is also a little darker in tone. The relationship between the two human lead characters is, as the story states, 'vanilla'. It is sweet and comfortable with lots of pleasant sex. Obviously, this suits some people but not others and certainly here it provides the tension within the story.

The characterization is good with clear personalities provided for each of the characters. The lead character is a person destined to fall from the path of a comfortable relationship to be tempted something a little riskier. The demon of the story provides the opportunity to fulfill his desires.

This is a morality tale of sorts, the demon is a figure of temptation and the outcome of the story offers perdition or redemption. It could be argued that bdsm is here presented as inherently demonic or evil, but I do not believe this to be the case; the sexual focus is only the differentiator, it is the choice to betray a loved one for hedonistic reasons that is seen as damnable.

The story is self-contained and the ending is interesting and not really predictable, which is a pleasant change.

The narrator has a very gravelly voice which is certainly appropriate for the demon's voice, although he does make effort to adapt this for different characters. The narration is clear and well paced and provides an enhancement to the story.

The author was offering free audible codes with no mention of a review requirement (though I feel that's usually implied if not actually mentioned) so I requested a code. My review was not influences by getting the code for free. I had never read Wolford's work before so I had no idea what to expect other than what the blurb mentioned.

The narrator really started the book off at a fast pace and with little inflection, but he got better as he went on. It was a straight read with no noticeable change in voice when speaking for the characters. Perhaps that's best when narrating BDSM stories.

The story was novel in that it starts with the couple finding out they have a disconnect in their sex life and try to work through it. I appreciated that. I also liked the realism in their exploring BDSM together as both novices and it not being an immediate success. What I didn't like is the judgmental attitude that was bandied about with the use of the word "perverted ". Sometimes it can just be a reference to kink, but it was far overused for that. There were other issues, descriptions, etc. that were repeated often as well and the book was only just over an hour long. Not sure if it was the narrator misreading or author mistakes, but there were extra words and awkward phrasings occasionally. The author didn't really develop the physical and emotional connection enough between Dylan and the Demon to make Dylan's reaction seem believable. The actual sex between them was meh, not so hot to me.

That said, I listened with attention to the very end because the writing was good enough to make me actively interested in finding out was was going to happen, so, an overall OK rating.
