Join Us in Celebrating Pride and in Elevating LGBTQIA+ Voices

The Audible Pride flag is raised proudly at the World Pride March in NYC.

Our Pride float is ready! We are thrilled to return to the New York City Pride March this Sunday to wave our Audible Pride flags high and celebrate our LGBTQIA+ community. We’re marching alongside our Newark neighbors, the Queer Newark Oral History Project (QNOHP), whose mission overlaps with ours—to elevate LGBTQIA+ voices.

Throughout June, our employees have been able to experience QNOHP’s work recording Newark’s queer trailblazers and legends through their exhibit, “At Home in Newark: Stories from the Queer Newark Oral History Project,” on display in our 1 Washington Park lobby. The exhibit documents the advocacy of Newark’s queer community throughout the decades on Newark’s path to pride.

Building on that, our Audible editors have encouraged listeners to get fully immersed in Pride right along with us through a curated collection, “Hear My Story,” that highlights stories spanning the LGBTQIA+ experience, from historical accounts of activism to personal tales of self-discovery. Audible editor Michael Collina also shares a few of his favorite listens that center on every day LGBTQIA+ characters who are living out and proud.

Our Pride has also been on full display internally, from a special employee viewing of the Stonewall Uprising documentary to mark the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, to a workshop on gender pronouns and a discussion with Dr. Perry Halkitis, author of Out in Time, The Public Lives of Gay Men from Stonewall to the Queer Generation, on the health and social inequalities of LGBTQIA+ populations, to drag bingo at the Newark Public Library, among other fun and informative events.

Pride month is celebrated every June in commemoration of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, a formative moment in the history of the global LGBQTIA+ rights movement.
