"[An] entertaining thriller [that] maintain[s] tension and intrigue through to the satisfying end. The author’s fans will devour this.” —Publishers Weekly

The Paris Apartment meets The Wrong Family in this thrilling tale of crime, passion and murder set in a run-down apartment complex packed with shady characters willing to go to deadly lengths to keep their darkest secrets from the stranger in their midst.

When Anna Hartley’s husband, Henry, calls her with a terrible, guilty confession, she can’t believe what she hears. It has to be a bad joke—the mild, predictable artist she married would never hurt a fly, let alone commit murder. But her confusion turns to horror when police find his body washed up on the banks of the Rio Grande.

Desperate for answers to the millions of questions his untimely death has raised, Anna checks in to The Sycamores, the run-down motel turned apartment Henry rented as an art studio. As she absorbs every bit of gossip the eclectic mix of residents are willing to share about her husband and each other, she begins to piece together a picture of a very different man than the one she married, and the life he led behind her back. The more she learns, and the less sense things seem to make, she finds herself wondering: Did she ever really know Henry at all?

But Henry’s secrets aren’t the only ones; as Anna’s search for clues expands, Cass, the mysterious, jaded motel manager, seems more and more determined to keep Anna in the dark. And when threatening letters start appearing at her door, Anna has to decide what’s more important—the truth, or her own safety.

Great mystery, kept me guessing the whole time. Flawed but likable characters. Great plot development. Just a well crafted book overall and the narration was perfect.

Captivating and unpredictable though with the pieces truly fitting at the end

I loved all of it! I couldn’t stop listening. I’m an avid psychological thriller book reader/listener. One of the best ones I’ve listened to in a while! Highly recommend!

So Deserving of 5 Stars ⭐️

Wow blown away by this audio. Absolutely loved that it was fresh, so completely unpredictable, the best flawed characters I’ve read in such a long time and the sporadic comedic one liners were priceless, not just worthy of a smile or snort but serious good laughter. But make no mistake this is not a feel good story. It’s real, raw, tragic, about how to navigate through loss that feels untenable. But also about relationships, and realizing maybe for the first time what genuineness, kindness and support feels like. But more importantly to finally feel deserving of it. So loved this book!

I truly love anything that Brittany Pressley narrates. She truly has a gift for portraying characters, their emotional ranges and in this case was brilliant for comedic effect. It was the first time I’d listened to Stacy Glemboski and she did an excellent narration of Anna!!

Unpredictable mystery with vivid characters.

Seraphina Nova Glass’s writing style describes the events and characters so vividly I can see them. She writes with a lot of relatable humor in her descriptions of situations and the thoughts of the characters, although this is definitely not a comedy.

Conversations/dialog between characters is so believable, creating a wide cast of interesting characters I was invested in, with at least one I cared about. If you have ever lived or worked in or around low-income housing, these characters and their situations are real and relatable! Well researched.

The mystery is complex and takes several surprising turns, at times it is suspenseful. There was a point early on I thought I knew what the outcome would be, but this was not predictable. The clues to the mystery are scattered throughout the events/action of the plot, not just told through the narration. There is no filler in this book, all the events and actions further the plot, either as clues to the mystery or red herrings that created the twists.

There is some profanity, no explicit sex scenes, and although there are a couple of violent crimes, they are not overly dark or disturbing.

The narration was excellent, with Stacey Glemboski as Cass being my absolute favorite.

The ending was satisfying and hopeful, and it came together with no loose ends.

Slaves To Their Secrets

First listen to Seraphina Nova Glass, I have a new favorite author. Loved the New Mexico setting, since I live here it's always fun to figure out where the places are or if they are imagined fiction. Brittany Pressley is also my favorite narrator, was fun listening to her "edgy" delivery of this story. Searching for my next Seraphina Nova Glass book.

Do yourself a favor spend the credit and listen!!

RE: A Story About Girl Power

Talk about some girl power—this one has it, in some empowering, clever, dangerous, and entertaining ways. To be honest at first I was unsure how I was going to feel about this story, and, it took a while to invest in the characters, which by the way Glass illustrates so vividly (and the narrators bring to life so well). Are there some farfetched elements? Yes, there are. Does the story get a little convoluted? Yep, it does. But the characters are easy to love, and root for, for the most part, and the bad guy/girl is a bit of a surprise. The story makes me want to read more of Glass’ work, and that seems to be a pretty good sign, and, I wouldn’t mind running into these girls club members again.
