I have to start out by saying Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie of all time. When my friend bought me this book for my birthday, I was suspicious. W..Show More »ould I like a retelling? Or is the magic I love so much in the Disney story be lost among a new storyline?
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED it!!! This book was fantastic! The first bit was basically word for word of the movie but once Aladdin hits the Cave of Wonders, that's when the new storyline begins. The author does an incredible job at bringing a whole new magic to the story of Aladdin. I loved the new characters and the backstory she gave Aladdin & Genie, and the new character development she added to characters. Jasmine is a total badass. Aladdin is no longer a guilty liar. Readers get to see the madness of Jafar.
I would highly recommend this novel to anyone who loves Aladdin or readers who enjoy novels of impoverished rebellion. This was so much better than I ever expected it to be. I don't usually reread books (because there are so many I want to read) but his book I will probably reread in a few years.
I love the idea of reimagining stories we know. I like this one because Aurora has to save herself, no one can do it for her. Maleficent is just as cr..Show More »uel and evil as she is in the Disney film, and the author really expanded on what makes her evil and why she is. This is not an exact retelling, and I loved that. Prince Phillip, King Hubert, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather help to keep the story going and interesting, and there are plenty of twists, turns, and close calls that make you feel like you're in the story right by Aurora's side, and in her head, literally. Amazing book. I cannot wait to listen to the others in the series!
