I'm a Nalini Singh fan. I like her archangel and psy changling series. Have listened to both series, some several times and can't wait to pounce on ..Show More »the next installment. This was like it was written by someone else. Nothing happened and the characters never grew on me. I wanted to tell them to grow up and pay attention. Reeaally......Felt like the author was trying to write something more "commercial".
A FUN & FLIRTY LOVE STORY BUT SADLY ONLY A NOVELLA
Poor David, named the Gentleman of Rock and the Drummer of the band Schoolboy Choir, had it bad for their Publicity Agent Thea and, after months of lo..Show More »nging, fantasising and drooling over her, he finally plucks up the courage and asks her out. Oh, he could get groupies and have lots of meaningless sex with faceless strangers like his other Band members but his heart and body only wanted Thea. Unfortunately Thea had been emotionally burned by her ex, didn't want to date Musicians or mix business with pleasure and so said no even though she felt a strong attraction to David.
He went away crushed but months later he heard a bit of good advice which put him back on course to win over the cold and prickly Thea and so, through heartfelt memos, texts and sexy phone calls he finally broke through Thea's defenses and got his chance to show her that he was a one woman kinda man. But it wasn't all plain sailing as a shocking claim left everyone reeling and tempers flared, emotions spiked and a phone hit the wall. However, these two lovers were sensible, respected one other, had faith and trust in each other and had great sexual chemistry too, so they tackled the threat together...... and it won them the HEA they both craved.
Worth a credit? I did wonder and hesitate about that because it was such a short listen but, as I'm a fan of both Nalini Singh and this series, I didn't doubt for long and spent the credit and I'm so glad I did. David was a sweetheart, thoughtful, tender, loyal, genuine, sexy and showed Thea, in romantic words and deeds and in his passionate lovemaking, that he was head over heels for her..... so Thea took a leap of faith for the chance to love David. Dual POV's, a well written sweet love story and a good narrator definitely made this a creditworthy listen.
I made a huge mistake with this book..... I started to listen to it quite late in the evening and, because the well paced story was romantic, captivat..Show More »ing and all its characters were so likeable, I just couldn't stop listening and kept fooling myself with thoughts of "oh, just one more chapter" until I finally thought "well there's only five chapters left I might as well finish it". I know I know I have no willpower and since joining Audible I've seen a lot of early dawns creeping in but, when the book's characters are so alluring and the storyline is funny, sad, tender, sexy, sweet, touching, romantic and there's witty banter too, then I'm a sucker for a love story with a HEA ending.
Gabriel, the very handsome workaholic playboy, has come in as CEO to rescue a failing Company but he's ruthless, focussed, driven and is very intelligent so it doesn't take him long to see that one of his employees, the shy, mousey little Charlotte with her baggy ill-fitting clothes, is actually highly intelligent and is in the wrong position in the Company so promotes her to be his P.A. But, as soon as he does, Gabriel realises that he's physically and mentally drawn to her and can see beyond her layers of protection to the little gem hidden beneath so he does what he does best.... makes careful plans to win the affections and trust of his timid little mouse. However, he soon discovers that his plans will have to be long-term plans as the more he sees Charlotte flinching and freezing up at his touch the more he painfully realises that she's been a victim of something terrible but it doesn't deter this now focussed and reformed playboy.
Yes, Charlotte has been a victim and her horrific ordeal is told in this listen but, with the help of her best friend Molly (from book 1) and over several months of working for sexy Alpha Gabriel (dubbed as T Rex by her), she slowly gains confidence, stands up for herself and snipes back.... which is just what Gabriel had planned. Then her fears turn into longings, she sees the caring family man behind Gabriel's ruthless facade, she also sees the deep attraction for her that he's not hiding any longer and the patience he's endured. But can she tell him her secret, will it scare him off, will she ever enjoy being touched again, is there any hope of a future for Gabriel and herself and will she survive when her abusive ex-boyfriend is released from prison???
Worth a credit? Dual POV's, a very good narrator who did a sexy Alpha male voice with ease, a patient, loyal, loving and swoon worthy Hero and an enjoyable well-written plot that had a lot of character growth and development as the Hero drew in his claws and the Heroine finally found hers. So YES worth a credit and I haven't yet come across a Nalini Singh book that wasn't worth a credit..... that's why her books are an auto buy for me.
Noah, Noah, Noah my heart bled for you and my eyes wept for you. In this heartbreaking story we finally find out what the tragic and terrible demons ..Show More »are that's haunting Noah and driving him to be such a self-loathing man-whore. And, because of those demons, he purposely shattered and destroyed the close bond and friendship he had with Kit - the only woman he ever truly cared for. Now, a few years later, he has finally hit rock bottom, and the self destruct button, but before he takes that poisonous road he drunkenly reaches out to Kit...... maybe to hear her voice again, maybe for forgiveness, maybe it's his cry for help.... or just maybe subconsciously it's his soul reaching for it's mate.
Kit, who's now a successful actress, had been heartbroken, devastated and shocked by Noah and what he'd done to her and she's never gotten over him or moved on... instead she's living in a world of emotional self denial when it comes to Noah. But when she casually answers her phone at 2.30 one night everything changes because on the other end is a broken man crying out to be saved and she knows she doesn't want a world without Noah in it no matter what he has done. And that starts them both on the very emotional roller-coaster ride to forgiveness, trust, understanding, redemption, passion..... and love.
This was such a pain-filled yet beautiful listen where I cried for both Kit and Noah as their war torn relationship was strewn with hurtful memories amongst the wreckage of their past. But it was slowly pieced back together again with tears, tenderness, understanding, hope and mental peace as the past was finally faced and forgiven and Noah's childhood secrets were revealed. There is also drama because Kit has a Stalker who is becoming more and more unstable and, despite her Bodyguards, the Stalker manages to come face to face with Kit and the outcome could be deadly. All the other well loved secondary characters from the previous books are present and step in and out of scenes.
An emotionally draining but truly wonderful bitter-sweet love story of a Rocker's self disgust and self destruction but, through a lot of character growth.... and an enduring love, he is redeemed, saved and finds his HEA. I love Nalini Singh's books, I'm in awe of her writing skills, I hungered for every word and she's one of my auto download Authors but what really brought this to life was Justine O. Keef's perfect narration. Woman you nailed it and you added the magic that transformed a great book into a wonderful listen - thank you.
Worth a credit? I savoured and devoured every Chapter virtually in one sitting.... so that's a YES from me.
As Abe and Sarah's marriage crumbles through drugs, grief, broken promises and harsh words Sarah thought it would totally break her.. and it nearly di..Show More »d. But, after the heartache of a love lost, hurtful words and shattered dreams dwindled to manageable pain, Sarah blossomed into a successful businesswoman and took over her own life.. and the direction it took. Abe however was hurting.. still hurting over the death of his little sister and heartbroken over the loss of the woman he deeply loved - so what did he do? Well, like any good Rocker.. he partied - partied hard - partied until his Band mates checked him into rehab. When he wasn't high or drunk anymore, and could think clearly, he knew one thing.. he wanted his wife back - and he'd move heaven and earth to get her to love him again.
And so starts this romantic second chance love story because Abe is given the unexpected chance to show Sarah how much he's changed, how much he regrets his past behaviour, how much he's willing to do anything for her.. and how much he loves her. But Sarah is very cautious about lowering her shields and letting Abe in to maybe shatter her world all over again. So it's up to Abe to show Sarah rather than tell her that the old Abe is gone.. replaced by a caring, loving, dependable.. and sober Abe.
While this was an enjoyable dual POV love story, I did feel the loss of certain scenes that would have made this listen more punchy, deeper and dramatic. However, after their rocky start, Abe and Sarah sailed nicely into their HEA's with no dramas or angsty situation - except the background worry that things would go smoothly for all. There were sex scenes but they weren't over described, overdone or prolonged, all the other well loved band mates (and their significant others) were present.. and sometimes the spotlight was turned their way - and there were a few other secondary characters too. I love Justine O. Keef's narration - her male voices are great and so too were the secondary characters whose voices were all different.
Worth a credit? Nalini Singh has wrapped up this series well, tied a shiny ribbon around it.. and even given us a big fat bow on top.. so hell yeah it's creditworthy.
