If you want a good "page turner" this book will deliver. I have read other Baldacci before and as such, I was able to discern who the bad guys were g..Show More »oing to be. Of course that is where the fun is in reading a whodunit; making your own deductions and being validated in the end. The final motives of the bad guy(s) were a bit thin but it still had plausability. Like me, if you had enjoyed other Baldacci you will like this too.
Like one of the other reviewers I have read and enjoyed some of the authors other books a lot more. The story was a bit too unbelievable. The narrator..Show More » was good very easy to listen to however.
The first third of this book was slow, and somewhat boring. However, I will say that it really picked up and had an exciting second half. I enjoyed ..Show More »the last two hours so much that I listened to it straight through. However, unless you want to read every Baldacci book with Sean and Michelle I would stick with only the First Family, and Split Second. The middle two books were so-so. As a suggestion, Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch books are better, in my opinion. Little different genre (police detective) but at least I didn't find myself falling asleep while I was listening to them!
I have either read or heard on Audible all of David Baldacci"s books and found them all to be enjoyable with the exception his recent "Firs..Show More »t Family" which I though was terrible. I can't believe it was from the same author who has in the past written thoughtful and thrilling novels. This one is insipid and its hard to believe it was written by the same person. Even though Audible offered a special deal on the book it wasn't worth it.
The narrative is wonderful as all Baldacci books are... but the recording is way too heavy on the sound effects which made certain parts seem trite. D..Show More »ialling them down would have lead to a 5/5 review.
I usually always love David Baldacci books and this was one of my favorites. The only problem I had was the female narration of Michelle Maxwell's ch..Show More »aracter. To me, she sounded like a whining, southern grandmother not the tough as nails charachter Michelle seems to be. I am not sure I ever got over the narration of her charachter (usually bad narration kills a book for me) but the story was good enough to get over this hurdle. I do, however, think they should look for someone with a more "crisp" no-nonsense voice.
I read some of the reviews of this book and almost didn't get it because of them. However, after completing it a little while ago I felt a need to get..Show More » in here and post something on behalf of other Baldacci fans that might be on the edge. If you are waffling like I was and are uncertain, trust your gut and trust David Baldacci's talent. This is indeed a good book. Okay, I will admit that its not my all time favorite work of his, but come on, it certainly was not as bad as some of the reviews I read. I would put it on my A- list.
absolutely the worst book Baldacci has written with its trite characters and unbelievable plot. The story would be looked down upon the most derring d..Show More »o fifth formers. Can't think who would enjoy it. I must admit on name alone I listened until part 2 but in the 200 odd books I have chosen from audio books this is the first I have not finished.
