Droning narrator & bad audio, distracts from story
The flat, droning voice of the narrator plus repetitive music pauses were so distracting, that it was an effort to complete this book. The first part ..Show More »of the book was particularly bad. The story was ok, but hard to get engaged in with clunky, inappropriate, repetitive music being played for major pauses. It could be improved by removing these!
Only for diehard fans of the genre wanting to start a new series.
I have listened to the first 3 in this series and the story is getting better. I have listened to several series where it seems that the author takes ..Show More »a bit to get into the swing of things. A few things that are distracting about the stories is the constant setting up of future stories and couplings, I like a little forshadowing, but it can be a nuisance if it takes away from the current story, however it seems this, the third is better put together. The piano music between scenes if extremely irratating and becomes almost comical in Saturday Night Live skit kind of way of over dramatizing. The narrator has also grown with the series as she is good but could use a little polish and some understanding of the sarcasm the author seemed to intend in some of the interactions, sarcasm being my 2nd language, i understood. They are intersting enough that I will continue with the series to see how the characters play out.
when i first started reading the series, i was always looking forward to the next installment, but now, it is starting to get a bit......predictable i..Show More » guess. one gets the feeling there is ALWAYS going to be a next installment! Despite being a fan of sagas etc, i realise this series might be over for me, especially when i strated getting confused about characters' names and how they are relevant to the current tale - way too many characters! K.B.Stanford's voice is another issue - quite annoying to be honest - but it's saying something when i tell you it's not the worst i've come across on audible - to put it bluntly, it's bad, but not so bad you need to talk yourself into having the courage to continue with the book. All in all, still a good read.
I have followed this series since the first audiobook, and enjoyed inmensely every story. But I can't get used to the new narrator. Miss Stanford,..Show More » the previous narrator for the series, read with emotion and enthusiasm. Mr Davis reading in comparison seems flat and unenjoying.
