Publisher's summary

It's not easy being human when Earth is run by aliens.

Lena has been locked up, imprisoned in a multi-species penitentiary on Earth, and all she wants is to get back to what she's good at: keeping her sister safe.

Kormak is a Levekk - a member of the same cold-blooded alien species that enslaved her planet - and he is the key to her escape.

Kormak hates humans, and he's not afraid to show it. They burn hot and bright but are snuffed out quickly, and the last thing he wants is a human slowing him down.

But she needs a protector, and he's drawn to her flame. When an accident derails their escape and strands them in the wintry wilderness, just who will end up saving whom?

Contains mature themes.

Different Type of Sci-Fi Romance

Kormac, the hero and Lena, the herione, were in prison. Kormac's sentence was about 50 years. Someone he trusted set him up. Lena's sentence was about 6 months. Lena was locked in solitary for trying to defend herself against the slimy warden when Kormac was trying to escape. Lena's cell door opened and she follows him to hopefully get back to her sister. That begins their journey trying to avoid the authorities, survive, and get to safety. Along the way, they get to know each other and eventually fall in love, although they don't know it until after they part. Justine O. Keef did a good job with the narration.

Pretty lame

The love. Problem is ho hum. No real mystery or tension. The narrator is good.

Great Alien romance

This audiobook was very entertaining. The heroine is in a prison for a minor crime, almost done with her sentence, when she’s accosted by the slimy prison warden and fights back. Thrown into a solitary cell, she’s miserable until she sees a large alien sneaking out of the prison. She begs him to take her with him, but he leaves anyway. Finding that her cell door is unlocked, she follows after him and he grudgingly allows it, even giving her a hand. Over the course of their travels back to New Chicago, they fall in love. Unfortunately, once they get there, he parts ways with her so he can confront his old boss (a mobster) whose actions got him sent to prison. I’m not going to give away any spoilers, but the ending is happy and the storyline well written. Narration was well done.

Strong female lead

I don’t understand why the first review for this stated the female lead fell into the male leads arms. They worked together and learned admiration for each other as well as how to help the other with their weaknesses. It was a really good start and a nice way to start the series.

Started out decent...ended with a pathetic heroine

The story was decent, but boring. A majority of the dialogue and the heroines remarks were cringey and made her seem too eager and needy.

Overall it would've been decent if not for the way the heroine turned into a completely pathetic, clingy, idiot. The needy heroine chasing after the resistant hero just gets so old. It's also embarrassing to listen to.

I'll be so mortified if he asks what I'm still doing here so instead of proactively going my separate way allow me to continue to follow him and then essentially beg him to stay with you..immediately after overhearing him completely dismiss her. He then reiterates it all to her face...and she continues to literally beg this man. It was pathetic and made me DNF with only an hour and a half left. If there's one thing that instantly destroys a story for me, it's a weak, needy heroine. This pathetic idiot literally watched him walk away until she couldn't see him and then...cried. GTFO of here.

great!!!

a daring prison escape and an adventure back to the city for a resourceful human and a grumpy alien who dislikes humans. I really like the one on one character interaction, how they were each useful in surviving their situations and how they slowly realised the truth about the other. they became a team and it makes their connection more meaningful then just insta love. will he chose his personal revenge mission or a new future of happiness he'd never imagined? will she let him go it fight just as hard for him as she does her sister?

spoiler alert there's a HEA. the narrator is good too. I don't usually like one narrator reading both parts,

Awesome story and wonderful characters....

The heroine was a strong and smart woman, just as the hero was intensely serious, but just a little flawed. I loved every minute of this story. I can't wait to start book 2. I more will be released on Audible.

Romance and suspense

A good listen that has you sitting on the edge of your seat. Constantly fearful of capture, our hero’s trek their way through the forest after escaping to either get home to loved ones or exact revenge. Whilst from different worlds, our hero’s build a bond that develops into trust, friendship and ultimately love.

Good story - ending?

I selected this audiobook because I was familiar with the narrator and I knew how good she is. I’m glad I selected it. The story started out very strongly, with the female character being determined to get what she needed. But I do agree with one of the reviewer‘s who said in the end she comes across as being a little clingy. Maybe the point being that sometimes that’s what loves does to one. I do recommend the book, it was worth a credit to me. And, of course Ms. O’Keefe did not disappoint - she’s an excellent storyteller.
