I believe this is the first MONK novel that this author wrote.
It was entertaining, and I could see the characters and situations that the autho..Show More »r was creating.
Although he had the spirit of the characters, I couldn't decide if it is the narrator, or the character Natalie that is whinny.
But after this revelation and seeing another episode of MONK, it is the character and the author did a good job of capturing that aspect of her.
The reason I gave this book a 4 star instead of 5 is because the author insists on using the word 'said' too much (in my opinion). Then the characters talk to each other all you zero in on is 'said... said... said...' , a little annoying but tolerable.
Overall, if you are a MONK fan you will most likely get a kick out of this book.
A unique plot twist on Mr Monk to cross everyone who cares for him to follow a dream while the S.F. Police Force is in an unofficial work out.... whi..Show More »le I doubted the way the twist & turns could work out Lee G. did the usual great job I've grown accustomed to.. well done!
This is my new favorite Monk Book.
Not only did the author do a fantastic job of capturing the "Monk essence" and keeping the story in..Show More »teresting but Angela Brazil does a perfect job of narrating. She matches her tone and inflections to the tv characters perfectly. One of the best narrations I've heard.
I have always been a fan of the Monk TV series and continuing books. This story follows Monk like you would expect. One thing is that it goes into a m..Show More »ore complicated plot than a TV series would have allowed.
The story is true to the characters from the TV show. Since the Monk characters are so well known to the reader, you fall right into the story quickl..Show More »y. Although the mystery has some nice plot twists, the book is not great literature, I and I would not recommend it to a friend who was not already a fan of Monk.
I am a fan of the show Monk, and found the concept of a Monk novel enjoyable; it reminds me of a Gregory Maguire novel.
The story has a g..Show More »ood rythm and pace in which envisionment of the characters and situations are clear.
The Humor in the book is very "Monk-ish".
I did notice, however, notice that the author has an obsession with the word "said" in "he said, she said" this made it a little hard to endure those talk back moments.
A better narrator could have been chosen, even with the volume on my Ipod on a lower setting her voice was a little harsh in a "third grade teacher scolding" type of way. I dealt with the narrator and listened to the whole novel. (try listening to the sample before purchasing)
Overall this is a must for Monk fans.
I enjoyed the novel very much and hope that Audible will carry more audio book versions of the Monk novels.
I have listened to the three other installments of the MONK books, and this addition is equally as delightful. The light and fluffiness of this novel..Show More », mixed in with a little mystery and murder are just as enjoyable as the TV show.
The new narrator is great, her voice is fluid and enjoyable to the ears, and even though the novelist enjoys to overuse the word 'said' her voice is so pleasent it isn't as noticable.
This is a must read for any MONK fan or anyone who is looking for a light and fluffy mystery novel without alot of gore and violence.
