It's a great change of pace from my usual fare of fantasy and science fiction...Show More » It's warm and funny and eminently enjoyable. I actually appreciate the reader's pauses and find it adds to the experience. One caveat, these novels are not-at-all-disguised proselytizations for the Christian faith, complete with altar calls, so if you're not into that sort of thing you may want to shy off. I just accept those evangelical sales pitches as part of the story (being so in character for Father Tim) that I don't let it bother me. I still enjoy the story so much that I couldn't wait to get subsequent books.

I wish I had realized this version was not narrated by John McDonough before I bought it.

The narrator, John McDonough does an absolutely perfect job. I have enjoyed all of the books in the series. I have read about half of them and listened to half. This is one of those books that is preferred as an audible book. This is my first review and I couldn't reccommend a series more highly. I can't wait until Audible has them all! it's the kind of book (series) you can listen to and enjoy over and over.

The streets are familiar to each and every one of us, even though the names are different. The easy going life, is heart warming for both men and women, and brings back flashes of old memories buried deep in our minds. I purchased the book series primarily for my wife but found myself wrapped in the warmth of the story, and before I knew it I too was hooked.

This last installment has been every bit as enjoyable as the ones that came before it. Jan Karon has a gift for transporting us to this lovely area, the people, simplifying Christian beliefs, feelings of gratitude for what we have and who we have to love...I could go on & on. It just feels good! John McDonough is the absolutlely perfect narrator and makes Father Tim live in our hearts! I highly reccommend the entire series (I'm a fan of unabridged and they are not yet all available unabridged through Audible)and this final installment is fantastic! And definitely ties up loose ends and we can visualize Father Tim and Cynthia living on to do good works with their faithful friends and extended family for years to come.
