Publisher's summary

It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable.

Yet Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's 60 years old.

Suddenly, Father Tim gets more than he bargained for. And readers get a rich, provincial comedy in which mysteries and miracles abound.

Don't miss out on the rest of Father Tim's adventures in Mitford.

Rich and Fulfilling

For those who like books with fast-paced action and a contrived plot, you won't enjoy this one. But for those of us who live for slow summer days with an occasional baseball game or a picnic, this is heaven.

Makes my heart smile!

I am starting to listen to the series for the second time. The writer and narrator combo is perfection. I love each character! Each book includes giggles and tears. It has been probably 5 years since I first read the series. I enjoy listening for the second time, knowing each person already and I look forward to the stories that I will enjoy again.

Love Mitford !

A visit to Mitford with all the inhabitants and everyday day life is like a visit ‘home’. The narration is just as it should be.

The Mitford Series begins!

If you haven’t read (or listened to) this wonderful series by author Jan Karon, you are truly missing out on a gem. The characters are so written beautifully and her descriptions of both the town of Mitford and its inhabitants will leave you wishing you lived there. The main character, Fr. Tim is an Episcopal priest who has lived there and served the parish of Lord’s Chapel for years. He finds himself feeling a bit burnt out and at loose ends, but isn’t quite sure why. Through the introduction of a very large dog, a young boy and an attractive new next door neighbor, he begins to find answers and new purpose.

Wonderfully narrated and such a treat. I enjoyed it as much as when I read it back when the series first was published. If you want comfort for your soul in trying times, this is the book to listen to. You will come away uplifted, happy and wishing you could pack your bags and move to Mitford.

I am off to listen to the next book in the series. The only complaint I have is that Audible doesn’t seem to have the entire series, and some of the versions aren’t read by this narrator, but by the author. Please Audible, consider adding the entire collection and make sure Mr. McDonough is the narrator.
