I was looking for a new story to listen to while driving back and forth to my in-laws about 3 hours away and stumbled on the fact that Jennifer Ashley..Show More » (Highland Pleasures series) was writing alternative fiction under the Allyson James name. The fact that there were already 3 titles in the series with a 4th upcoming was an added bonus.
This story moves right along right from the start and we meet most of the major characters in the first two chapters. Hillary Huber does a great job of differentiating the characters, and I really like what she does with them. Nash is a little strident, but the rest are just spot on. She really gets Maya's "up yours" attitude and conveys it with every word.
In my opinion, the characters are well drawn and believable. They definitely make me want to rush to the Crossroads Motel and buy them a drink!
My favorite scene in the book involves Janet, Maya and a bottle of tequila. You'll laugh, bite your nails and drive right past your exit just so you can keep on listening. Can't wait to hear the rest of the series. Thanks, Audible!
One of the biggest flaws in First Person narration is the lack of perspective. The reader is locked into the thoughts and sights of the primary charac..Show More »ter. We have no clue what fits and what does not fit unless the leading character figures it out for us.
In Firewalker, the author tries to weave many story lines together. But, she flounders around and fails to pick a primary line which the reader can lock onto. Personally, I have no problem following five or six story lines at a time as long as the author follows a logical progression from time to time. This offering fails to do so in any meaningful way. The result, for me at least, was a total let down at the conclusion. Put another way, the means did not justify the ending.
Hillary Huber is, as always, Hillary Huber. Everyone sounds the same and each character carries the same vocal inflection regardless of the authors intent. I put up with it - but I don't enjoy it very much.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good magic story. I liked to connected points of the stories and it helped fill in a part of the Ot..Show More »herworld series about Ms Koosi. If you read Yasmine Galernom there is a story for you. If you read a story of magic and strong chicks you'll find a lot here.

I have read all 4 books in the Stormwalker series, and then waited for book 5. Almost a 21/2 year wait. But you came out with book 5. I was wonderin..Show More »g if I needed to reread at least book 4 to remember what was going on---but found out quickly there was no need. "Dream walker' is beautifully written with all of the back story information needed and reminders of the actions in the other stories, and yet an all new story--well done. Great use of the magic mirror and using all the important characters made the story flow seamlessly. Cant wait for book 6
