Risa is half wolf and half Aedh. She cannot change into a wolf but has some of their characteristics. On her Aedh side she is able to see reapers an..Show More »d change into mist. From her mother she got the ability to change her features.
Risa just wants to live an ordinary life running her restaurant but then her mother asks her to see a child of her clients and Risa discovers the child's soul has been ripped from her body. She sets out to try and discover who is responsible. On top of that she suddenly has all kinds of creatures trying to kidnap her to get to her father (who's only role in her life was to give her life - one night with her mother) because supposedly he is up to no good and both the bad and the good want to find him.
There's lots of action and twists and turns and good character development. You have her roommate who is a witch, another friend who is a werewolf. You have a reaper warrior who attaches himself to Risa hoping it will lead to finding her father, Lucian who is an Aedh who has lost his wings and is a love interest and several other interesting characters.
The narrator did a pretty good job and I loved her voice.
Liked the first book in this new series from Arthur. I loved her Riley Jensen series, and this is several years down the road from that. Many of the s..Show More »ame characters. I didn't like the narrator quite as much, something about her voice bothered me. Risa is a strong if somewhat confused heroine but likable all the same and the other characters fill out the story nicely.
I just finished this book and bought the next one. It's not that the story is so bad, not near as good as the Guardian series, but entertaining enoug..Show More »h. The problem is the the narration by Saskia Maarleveld, she reads these books with so little personality, unless you want to count irritable as a main emotion, that I find I don't even like Risa some of the time. I looked forward to her being an adult, she was such a vibrant child in the Guardian books, so much personality. And our sexy male lead? He sounds even less appealing than Risa, like a dull dimwit. And I don't understand all those pauses in the middle of sentences, they are just long enough to make hold my breath, waiting for her to pickup the reading, it's just awful. Did I mention she reads these books flat as a pancake? After using Angela Dawe for the Guardian series, I can't understand why she would allow this person to read and ruin the Dark Angel series. I will be downloading a ebook if the 5th book isn't the last book.
