This ..Show More »book I got on sale & the following book, Every which way but dead. I have to say it took awhile to get into the characters not having listen to the 1st book. But by half way though I was very interested in where the book was going & all the new type of character that she added to the vampire genre. By the end of the book I was hooked & I went directly to the 3rd book. I love following a character's growth through a serious of books. Im going to enjoy these character's and this serious. When reading on my own, the sarcasm and wit does not come as clear as when this narrator, Marguerite Gavin, reads the emotions and humor into the words. I've listened to every book in the series except the last one (because they switched the narrator) merely because I loved her reading.

This story, and all the previous, are very funny and are an original slant on the paranormal/romance genre. The pixies, the vamps and of course, the witch/demon Rachel Morgan are loads of fun.

Harper Audio produced this book instead of Tantor Media which did all the other books. I don't know why Kim Harrison chose to change companies, maybe ..Show More »they offered her more money. If so it must have been a lot to make her accept such an awful narrator. Harper audio and Gigi Bermingham ruined this book for me. She is one of the worst narrators ever. I'd recommend you buy the hardback instead. Which is what I plan to do. I can't stand to listen to her whiny voice another minute.

Rachel Morgan is back and Marguerite Gavin does her usual great job in pulling us through yet another Hollows episode. Kim Harrison is one of the few ..Show More »modern authors who strive to make this niche genre that is Urban Fantasy so much better with each novel she puts out. While this is novel is certainly a big step above the norm of Urban Fantasy it is not the best novel in this series by far.
Rachel Morgan has in the previous seven novels established herself as a powerful entity in the Hollows universe, she has overcome trial after trial refusing to join any of the factions but rather sticking to her small band of friends including Ivy the vampire and Jenks the pixie. But this independence comes at a cost, she has been shunned by the witches, Trent the elf hates her and the vampires demand results on her research. In short she cannot continue to stand out so prominently in society and still keep disregarding politics.
Rachel spends this entire novel playing catch up jumping from location to location trying to fix this, she is summoned left and right and faces both assassins and corrupt witches and I can't help but think that Harrison uses this novel more to solve existing plotlines rather than have Rachel do a proper "run". Still, I wait with baited breath for the next novel in the series. I have a feeling the series could take an exciting turn once all the factions again are satisfied and Rachel can continue to do what she does best. Kicking ass and taking names

For the last book, I waited months until it was on sale, too. If these last two books had never gone on sale, I never would have listened. If two credits for popular books becomes the norm, I will cancel my membership. Just sayin'.

As to the book, Kim Harrison is amazing as usual! One of my favorite series.

It seems that Rachel is getting more dumb as time goes on. She ignores her most trusted friends and runs head long into trouble. Then she's sorry ever..Show More »y time...boo hoo. I really loved this series, but this but just makes Rachel seem really stupid, and self centered and totally ignorant. Once she would take advice of her dearest friends, especially Ivy and Jinks. Now all she does is make the biggest and stupidest errors to get her in trouble. Getting her butt kicked by 'Humans". I just don't know what's going on. Ms Harrison seems to be making Rachael become more infantile in her behavior than the other books. I truly hope that if there is a book 11, Rachel will get her wits about herself and grow up and remember who her friends are and maybe take their advice. If Ms Harrison is making Rachel behave in a really stupid way to make the series last longer, it is really an insult to the fans. If there is another book I will give it a try, but I was very disappointing in this one. Up til now I loved all the books, Sorry Rachel I can't feel sorry for someone who keeps making the same dumb mistakes through the whole book. However Marguerite Gavin did her best to over come the the story, and her narration was perfect. Just wish she had a better story to narrate.

I couldn't focus at work at all while i was listening to it.... If you don't know about this series then go to the first book and start it... They have been through too much that you can't believe all the changes that happened.

Narration was excellent as always, and Kim gave us a masterpiece... Oh waw what a great book it is.

Which if you read a lot of these collection of stories you may want to research to see what stories you've already read. This Anthology is only Kim Harrison, Hollows stories Some relating to Rachel Morgan, like how Al came to capture Suri. How Rachel first met Pierce. Ivys history in the I.S.and how she finally came to partner up with Rachel and a great story about Trents quest along with Jenks to retreve his baby. And more Rachel Morgan related stories. Some are original stories with never heard of Hollows characters. Either way, This is a book for any fan of the Hollows.
