There Be Monsters Here....

It's not as great as you'd think, living in a tourist town that's known as "the most magical place in America". Same boring high school, just twice as many monsters under the bridges and rival Families killing each other for power. I try to keep out of it. I've got my mom's bloodiron sword and my slightly illegal home in the basement of the municipal library. And a couple of Talents I try to keep quiet, including very light fingers and a way with a lock pick.

But then some nasty characters bring their Family feud into my friend's pawn shop, and I have to make a call - get involved or watch a cute guy die because I didn't. I guess I made the wrong choice, because now I'm stuck putting everything on the line for Devon Sinclair. My mom was murdered because of the Families, and it looks like I'm going to end up just like her....

Good book

If you like a tough strong female lead this is for you. A little sappy but not bad. I'll read it again.

Better Then Expected.

What did you like best about this story?

This is not a new take of the Elemental Assassin series, like I was afraid might happen. This book has a great story line and new cast of characters. I really enjoy the EA series, but was ready for something different, and Cold Burn of Magic delivered. Well worth my credit, the narration was also first rate. Thank you Jennifer Estep for a great start to a new series.

a new series

This is the beginning of a new series, aimed at the YA market but I'm a senior citizen and I loved it as much as her Elemental Assassin books. Bravo!!

Fun listen

Any additional comments?

Fun listen, narrator is fantastic. Story is simple and direct, not difficult to figure out. The main character is snarky, fun and southern. Kind of a strange dynamic with the magical mob families, but it works.

slow start but great story

I fell asleep in the beginning of the story, missing the first 30 minutes of the novel due to the lists and descriptions being boring but it didn't matter. I started paying attention during the first fight scene and from there the story really picked up and got good and I was hooked.
